Zachry Nuclear Engineering, Inc . (ZNE) is currently seeking a Designer I, Electrical for a direct hire position located in our Stonington, CT or Charlotte, NC office.
Position Synopsis: Under direction/guidance from engineers or supervision, the successful candidate will be relied upon to assist in the planning, design, and development of electrical drawings for various projects. Related activities include research to obtain detailed project and design criteria as well as providing field support including field verifications for retrofit applications, as-built documentation, and installation supervision.
The candidate must also be able to independently apply a working knowledge of electronics and/or electrical systems and computerized drafting methods to prepare various electrical drawings including wiring diagrams, one-lines, and schematics to represent the electrical design. The candidate must also be able to demonstrate the ability to draw complex electrical systems from sketches or specifications using appropriate symbology, terms, procedures, and drafting standards.

Education Required (minimum): Associate’s degree in drafting, design or engineering technology or equivalent experience inthe design of electrical and controls systems.
Experience Required (minimum) : Must have 3 years (minimum) of experience in engineering drafting and familiarity with electrical design practices.
Other Required Qualifications (minimum) : All applicants must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. A demonstrated ability to direct drafting personnel on drawing assignments is required. Proficient in AutoCAD and /or MicroStation CAD software packages (or an equivalent software package) and Microsoft Office software, Word, Excel, Etc., is required with competency in software applications for email and databases. Demonstrated technical knowledge of design practices, codes, and standards applicable to structural components is required.
Position also requires a working knowledge of structural steel types and materials as they are available in the industry and working knowledge of mechanical design principles and practices. Effective time management skills are required as position may involve working on several projects concurrently. Ability to pass security and drug screening and maintain unescorted commercial nuclear plant access is required. Successful candidate will be required to understand and comply with company policies, procedures, and processes. Overtime work is required. Travel to client sites is required with periods of field/office work.
Position requires individual to exercise independent judgement to develop designs with minimal direction from Design Supervisor, Design Lead or Engineering and will concurrently support multiple projects. Ability to perform walk downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment, to include climbing ladders, working at height, carrying equipment up to 50 pounds, accessing security-controlled areas, and entering confined spaces and controlled hazardous Z(e.g., high temperatures, high radiation) areas is required.
Preferred Qualifications: Ability to utilize various drafting and CADD techniques as required for project requirements. Knowledge of MicroStation (preferred) and/or AutoCAD is essential. Recent plant modification package development and/or field experience on nuclear power plant projects is a plus. Additional certifications and/or courses in basic electronics and/or electrical systems desired.
