What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator III position at Zachry Group?
Zachry Group is seeking an Electrical & Instrumentation Estimator to prepare budgets for E&I equipment/commodities. E&I estimator has the responsibility to develop accurate project estimates. They will be expected to produce quality work, work well with others, and be willing to continuously improve. Successful E&I estimators should have capabilities to evaluate engineered equipment costs, commodity materials and specialized subcontracts.
Responsibilities
Position Duties:
Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Under general supervision, the individual competently performs all aspects of developing a preliminary or definitive estimate for electrical & Instrumentation installation utilizing company owned software/spreadsheets.
Organizes and compiles drawings and other documents issued for project development work.
Prepares detailed material take-offs, perform historical trend analysis and validate bills of quantities.
Understand cost and productivity experience and develop cost comparison recommendations for organizational consideration and decision.
Recommends and incorporates labor production and material cost decisions into the estimate.
Prepares quote scope solicitations for material and subcontracts to support procurement functions.
Helps to evaluate scope of work and other factors impacting scope from bid documents.
Uses various computer systems and software, including InEight Estimate and various Microsoft Products to analyze data and prepare estimate recommendations.
Performs other responsible duties as required to support new project development and support of ongoing jobs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Ability to compile material and labor take-offs and solicit/evaluate pricing from vendors and suppliers.
Understands estimate types (Lump Sum, T&M, Fixed Fee, Budgetary, Unit Rates, Unit Price).
Ability to interact with customers, vendors and inter-company personnel on a professional level.
Ability to work in a group environment and willingness to share knowledge and learn from others.
Can manage multiple tasks, projects and priorities in a logical, methodical manner.
Strong knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Excel/Word.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
The ability and willingness to work under tight time restraints.
Strong written and verbal communications skills.
Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
Strong work ethic - Willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
The ability to travel for bid meetings and site visits (normally 1 to 2 days).
High School or equivalent education + field experience
Other:
Willingness to work in an office environment on a 40-hour per week work schedule.
Performs own work and provides assistance to others as directed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Current or Former Zachry Employee;
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or construction related science
Passed the Engineering in Training (EIT) exam or Professional Engineer
4-7 years of experience working in the Industrial Construction or Maintenance industry as a craft worker.(E&I related)
Strong communications skills, specifically in reading/writing as it relates to Estimating.
Physical Requirements:
Employee will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, email, use of arm/hand steadiness, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, multi limb coordination, oral expression, and comprehension. May be required to lift, carry and move objects safely. Must be able to pass a Physical Health Assessment based on an Occupational Review of physical actions required to perform the work. Must be able to access any part of the plant or job site which may include climbing at heights, working in confined spaces, and working in exposed weather conditions. The candidate/employee must meet all standards to perform the previously mentioned actions to access the required area. Must be able to sit, squat, stand, & kneel for long periods of time.
Work Environment:
Will work in a general office environment. Capable of operating and functioning in a fast-paced work environment. Must possess a vision (corrected or uncorrected) that allows for clear visibility from a distance of 20 inches or less. While traveling, employee will work in multiple environments including an office, warehouse and in a trailer or building on construction sites. On construction sites noise levels will be moderate to high. Job site will contain: light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools, people standing, walking, sitting, signaling and talking, bells whistles and alarms. Weather conditions ranging from warm/hot – cool/cold and occasional rain. May be required to work in close, confined spaces or in different elevations for a long period of time. Noise levels will be moderate to high.
