Zachry Group is seeking a Leave of Absence Specialist to provide subject matter expertise and perform complex administrative processes related to time off programs, which includes paid time off, disability plans, and leave of absence policies in support of Zachry’s total rewards strategy.
Responsibilities
- Serves as a subject matter expert for Zachry Time Off Programs, which include, leave of absence (LOA), disability programs, and paid time off.
- Consults, advises and participates in the administration of time off programs in alignment with policies and plan documents, process and procedure documentation, and compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
- Administers all aspects of LOA to include tracking of employees and the LOA time used, managing medical documentation and leave decisions, payment for benefits while on LOA, entering HRIS updates, and the tracking and approval of requests for reasonable accommodations.
- Maintains reasonable communication with employees on leave and the employee’s managing department to facilitate smooth and timely return to work.
- Acts as liaison between Employees, Benefits, and Management and outside vendors as needed to provide guidance, education and advice on time off programs.
- Identifies and recommends methods to update, simplify and enhance processes, procedures and technologies. Leads continuous improvement initiatives to ensure services are effectively delivered.
- Maintains the confidentiality and integrity of the employees’ medical documentation and leave information.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree with a professional HR/Business Administration or Diploma with equivalent working experience.
- Broad working knowledge of federal, state and local leaves and disability laws (ADA, FMLA, USSERRA, etc.) and understanding of employee benefits as they relate to leaves of absence.
- Minimum 3 years of related experience in leave of absence administration.
- Superior customer service skills, with effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Speaks, reads and understands Spanish
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must possess a continuous improvement mindset; identify, recommend, and improve current processes.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize and multitask as well as adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to work independently, think and plan ahead, and bring issues to attention of management.
- Confidentiality is critical to success.
- 5 or more years of experience working in employee benefits, time off programs, leave of absence, or total rewards fields.
- Understanding of leave of absence processes, governmental requirements, and economics of disability group insurance industries.
- Good technical skills and understanding of HRIS, system testing and file interfaces.
- Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS), Certified Benefits Professional (CBP), Professional of Human Resources (PHR/SPHR) Certification, or other related certification and designation.
