Description

This position develops the appearance of a product without compromising on functionality and quality to increase its sale value. The Industrial Designer has to keep the point of safety of the product in mind as it is a point of high consideration while designing. Confers with the Art Studio, International, Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Product Development and our International Company in the Orient to establish and evaluate design concepts for manufactured products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following is an overview of the main duties for this position and is not all inclusive of each task that may be performed in this role.

Prepares sketches of ideas, detailed CAD drawings, and CGI (computer generated imagery) using the latest software and techniques.
Coordinates the fabrication of models or samples and the drafting of working drawings and specification sheets from sketches.
Modifies and refines designs, using working models, to conform with customer specifications, production limitations, or changes in design trends
Coordinates the look and function of product lines.
Presents designs and reports to design committees for approval and discuss needs for modification.
Evaluates feasibility of design ideas, based on factors such as appearance, safety, function, serviceability, budget, production costs / methods, and market characteristics.
Reads publications, attend showings, and study competing products and design styles and motifs to obtain perspective and generate design concepts.
Researches production specifications, costs, production materials and manufacturing methods, and provide cost estimates and itemized production requirements.
Provides product illustrations (sketches, vector, and CGI) for use in presentations, advertisements, collateral, trade shows, merchandising, packaging, and containers.

Requirements

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and / or ability required. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be detailed and organized, produce high quality work, able to handle multiple projects, work independently and have the ability to meet tight deadlines.

Bachelor's Degree (B. A.) or equivalent from 4-year college or technical school and at least one-year related experience and / or training; and / or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read and interpret documents, style guides, software manuals and related material. Ability to speak effectively with managers and co-workers.

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Must be able to tactfully deal with various personalities throughout the company and deal effectively and professionally with internal and external customers.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Strata Studio Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, has a constructive approach to challenges.

This position is currently located near Boston, MA, however this position may also be located near one of our other locations dependent on needs of the hiring team for the right candidate.
