What are the responsibilities and job description for the Refractory Masons, Masons, and Mason Tenders position at Zampell Refractories, Inc.?
Zampell is chiefly involved with the engineering and construction of refractories, insulation, scaffolding, coatings, and corrosion within the industrial and commercial sectors. We are looking for experienced and entry level masons, mason tenders, and refractory masons.
Masons: Independently performs masonry work in the repair and construction of furnaces including boiler enclosures. Masons are trainees and/or experienced bricklayers who have completed a period of employment as Mason Tenders or have prior bricklaying experience or trade school training in masonry arts. Special refractory masonry skills including blueprint reading, welding and burning are not required for this position.
Mason Tenders: Mason Tenders are mason trainees. They perform some masonry work under supervision and act as assistant to masons, carrying brick to the work site and working to provide brick, mortar and other materials as needed to improve the efficiency of the mason, or to work alongside the mason (as required by the most efficient approach to each specific job). Experience preferred: related vocational training or 1-2 years of experience as a laborer in the construction industry.
Refractory Mason: Perform masonry work involved in the maintenance and installation of refractories. Refractory masons are responsible for the removal of refractory material with chipping guns and jack hammers, the installation of refractory materials including mortar, brick, plastic and tile. Installation will include basic hand tools such as trowel and hammer. They are responsible for running gunite machinery during installation of refractory materials. Refractory masons perform stick welding of steel anchors. They train mason tenders and masons on refractory applications and assist with preparing the job sites including moving materials and setting up staging. Perform hole and fire watching duties as required and assist with general housekeeping duties on the job site including repairing tools and maintaining the job trailer by organizing uniforms and safety supplies.
Additional beneficial skills are welding, carpentry and/or metal forming. If you have no refractory mason experience, but experience in brick masonry, carpentry, welding, and construction labor; these all translate well to the skills needed to be a successful refractory mason.
All positions require overnight travel to customer sites. Some travel may require air travel. Reliable transportation is required. Zampell will provide On-the-Job training in refractory.
