Summary/Objective
The assistant manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining guest services. The position is responsible for the various tasks involved in the overall operation of the store, including measuring business trends and maximizing sales/profitability by developing staff and by controlling expenses, shortages and all aspects of merchandising and inventory control.
Essential functions
- Provide managerial and operational support to the Store Manager
- Drive and maximize store sales, control and minimize shrink, and control payroll within budget to achieve store goals
- Demonstrate exceptional customer service and ensure each guest receives outstanding service by providing a customer-friendly environment, including greeting and acknowledging every customer and by maintaining outstanding standards, solid product knowledge and all other components of customer services.
- Recruits, trains, develops and communicates with all staff as well as assesses performance on a regular basis.
- Implements and maintains guest service standards.
- Maintains all merchandising standards, display presentations and signing standards and monitors inventory levels.
- Plans and assigns daily goals, tasks and assignments.
- Participates in the performance counseling of store personnel.
- Ensures proper completion through follow-up. Assists in monitoring sales performance through the analysis of sales reports.
- Ensures compliance with all company policies and procedures and follows all safety standards to ensure a safe work and shopping environment.
- Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
Required qualifications/ competencies:
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities, with the ability to work independently, as well as with others
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to plan, prioritize and execute detailed instructions in a timely and efficient manner
- Must possess sound judgment and people management abilities
- Must be adaptable to a changing environment and able to consistently achieve goals despite stress and ambiguity
- Must possess the ability to use computers and technology for information, and to access information necessary to complete the job
- Must possess ability to process information/merchandise through POS register system
Required education and experience:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Minimum of 1 year of retail or customer service experience.
Preferred education and experience:
- 3 years of experience in retail store with at least 1 year in a supervisory or lead role.
- Working knowledge of Zamzows' products and culture.
Working Conditions
Supervisory responsibilities: In conjunction with the Store Manager, supervises and directs activities of employees.
Work environment: This job operates in a retail environment with plants, chemicals, dirt and live animals. There may be regular exposure to mild physical discomfort from factors such as dust, fumes or odors, temperature extremes, loud noise, strong drafts, or bright lights. The majority of job duties are conducted indoors, although occasional merchandise stocking, customer carry-outs, and bank deposits will require that an employee leave the store briefly.
Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items that weigh more than 50 pounds.
Position type and expected hours of work: This is a full-time position that regularly requires long hours and weekend work. Assistant Store Managers generally have Tuesdays and Wednesdays off and work the rest of the week.
Travel: Occasional travel from store to corporate office or local travel between stores.
