Job Description:

Contemporary art gallery seeks a freelance photographer to produce digital product images of artworks, exhibition installation views, artist portraits, and editorial projects as assigned. The ideal candidate has experience in art photography, post-production using Adobe Suite, familiarity with art handling best practices, and is comfortable working on tight deadlines. Candidates who meet most but not all qualifications are encouraged to apply. The gallery has studio space for photography on site, but only candidates who have access to the equipment required to complete this role’s responsibilities will be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

• Photograph all incoming artwork & jewelry purchases and consignments according to gallery specifications.
• Use Adobe Suite to post-produce all images for visual consistency through all applicable editing, including, but not limited to, masking, retouching, color correction, and image optimization.
• Match gallery’s existing visual signature (lighting, color accuracy, composition) & branding across all platforms.
• Create compelling exhibition installation views.
• Conduct editorial-style shoots to support marketing and sales efforts. Deliverables include, but are not limited to, website banner images, social media imagery, and studio visit documentation.
• Take professional portraits of artists and collaborators as needed.
• Upload and organize final images to gallery’s cloud-based software.
• Deliver final images one week or less from initial shoot.
• Must be comfortable exercising and taking creative direction. Ex: determining the most interesting angle of an artwork.

Qualifications:

• Professional demeanor with the ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
• Prior experience in commercial photography, preferably in an art, gallery, or museum setting.
• Proficiency in image postproduction using Adobe Suite, particularly Lightroom and Photoshop.
• Ability to upload and organize final image deliverables to Dropbox according to gallery specifications.
• Portfolio demonstrating professional experience in one or more of the aforementioned image deliverable categories: artwork documentation, portraits, and/or editorial shoots.
• Technical understanding of digital photography equipment and lighting.
• Familiarity with art handling best practices or a strong willingness to learn.
