About your role:

This is a hands-on, full-time position with day-to-day duties, including working directly for the Director of Safety and with the Project Manager and Construction Manager to support projects, while reporting on safety key performance indicators. The Field Safety Manager is also responsible for the day-to-day management of the site-specific safety program, assisting and directing the production team on safe work requirements to complete the job tasks safely.

Essential Duties and Major Responsibilities

  • Walks Jobsite and observes contractors as they work, looks for any safety infractions if found corrects as soon as possible, and performs safety audits.
  • Mentors contractor personnel to be aware of and recognize hazards.
  • Follows appropriate MSHA regulations and ensures all site personnel do the same on all mine site projects.
  • Responsible for daily safety meetings and topics.
  • Completes safe work permits each morning for the job site and obtains all required signatures.
  • Conducts safety orientations daily with all new contractors working on site and facilitates testing to ensure contractors have retained information.
  • Takes the ZAP Site Specific Safety Plan and customizes it for upcoming projects, adding site- specific details to each plan, including muster points, emergency response details, and closest emergency room facilities.
  • Observes groups of contractors working in the field and requests Job Safety Analysis (JSA) to verify proper documentation completion.
  • Interacts with the groups and coaches them on any safety issues noted from audits.
  • Handles all incident or accident investigations and completes all necessary steps throughout the process, including investigating, collecting statements, performing root cause analysis, and summarizing the findings.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED and some college course work required.
  • 10 years’ experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and education required.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree, or trade/technical school preferred.
  • HSE Certification and Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST) certification are preferred. • 5 years of mining safety experience required – preferably in cement or lime industry
  • MST HAVE 5 years of supervisory/management experience required.

Supervisory Expectations:

  • The position has immediate oversight of team members most of the time performing the same or directly related work as those the position leads. This position does not have any direct reports but oversees management of the site.

Independence of Action

  • Results are defined; the incumbent sets own goals and determines how to accomplish results with few or no guidelines to follow. Although precedents may exist, supervisor/manager provides broad guidance and overall direction.

  • The work environment is a typical construction and/or mining environment. The employee must complete their work satisfactorily in an environment with significant distractions, including staff, clients, and vendors walking through and conversing, telephones ringing, conversations carrying over, loud noises, and interruptions to answer questions from others. Must be able to drive to sites or meetings with clients.

  • The employee must regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds and should do so in a sound and safe manner. This job’s specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Hours:

Company Hours

8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Hours vary and are dependent on business needs.

40-Hour Work Week

Monday through Friday, hours may vary with the workload.

Evenings/Weekends/OT

As needed to satisfy the requirements of the position.

  • Regulatory – Experienced with OSHA 29 CFR 1910, 1926 and 30 CFR 46/47/48, 56/57/58 & 62; Must know the requirements for Independent Contractors and have direct experience working with MSHA inspectors on mine sites.
