About your role:
The Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls (E,I&C) Engineering Supervisor is a hands-on, full-time position responsible for managing a team of three (3) to ten (10) Electrical and I&C Engineers. As well as the technical skills required at the E3 and E4 Engineering levels, they are responsible for their direct reports in all aspects, including hiring, training, mentoring, deliverable quality assurance (QA)/ quality control (QC), performance reviews, performance improvements and terminations. In addition to their responsibilities with their direct reports, the I&C Engineering Supervisor is responsible for coordinating with other supervisors and directors to resource projects, contributing to business development and proposals, assist with recruiting and interviewing, and creating/revising/improving department standards.
Essential Duties and Major Responsibilities
- Supervising/Mentoring Team Members:
- Guides team members through calculations or engineering decisions while referring to codes or applicable standards related to the engineering or design decision.
- Provide training to the electrical and I&C team on developing and effectively using department tools.
- Helps develop tools for use by the electrical and I&C team.
- Assists with walking through important details to expand overall understanding.
- Expands overall understanding of the team, acting as a mentor who encourages continued growth.
- Effectively analyzes resource needs, organizes, and allocates resources. Understands resourcing and department budgeting tools and leverages them for manpower planning. Coordinates with Project Managers for resources and deliverable dates. Assesses resources with Project Managers to ensure allocation can fulfill the technical requirements. Periodically review project budgets and schedules. Facilitate periodic team meetings and participate in department meetings.
- Performs timely employee reviews and development plans for employees. Identifies and sponsors training for employees. Coaches and trains employees and delegates responsibility to develop staff. Conduct individual 1:1 with direct reports.
- Promptly addresses and documents personnel or performance issues and resolves the conflict by engaging the department Director and the Director of Operations. Develop and implement performance improvement plans when necessary.
- Disseminate company information from Director to direct reports.
- Review and approve timesheets. Track and approve PTO.
- Awareness of Allocation and Utilization metrics and targets from Ajera. Administrate department overhead billing codes for training, standards, and staff meetings.
- Business Development and Proposals
- Participate in proposal efforts by developing budgets, identifying scope and resources, review schedules, provide feedback on or generating short/long form proposal documents.
- Communicates directly with customers and prospects, providing approved quotes, answering questions, and resolving issues.
- Facilitate handoff to assigned resources at project kickoff as needed.
- Review business development forecast with Director regularly.
- Foster and maintain relationships with existing clients.
- Writes arc-flash study and programming proposals while combining relevant input into the project proposal.
- Lead Electrical/I&C Engineer / Project Manager
- Ensuring projects are adequately supported to meet schedules and budgets as best as can be accomplished.
- Works with project managers to coordinate critical tasks and packages.
- Supports and drives successful interdisciplinary integration to complete project deliverables.
- Provide project support to the team to help fill gaps as needed.
- Act on occasion as a project manager for electrical-specific projects, such as arc-flash study-only projects.
- Communications and Project Meetings
- Coordinates all customer & internal project meetings with the engineering teams (in-person and virtually).
- Conducts in-person follow-ups with engineers or designers to keep tasks moving forward.
- Interface communications with utilities or clients as needed.
- Helps to ensure communication occurs between other team members and engineers or project managers, and advocates as needed.
- Technical Task Work
- Performs short circuit, coordination, and arc-flash studies.
- Performs equipment sizing calculations.
- Supports technical decisions on various projects as needed on the team.
- Performs medium voltage relay programming or other technically specific tasks.
- Develops schematics.
- Runs project meetings (electrical-specific) with clients.
- Project QA/QC
- Produces and checks Electrical an I&C engineering deliverables defined by the RACI (responsible, accountable, consulted, and informed) in alignment with company standards and procedures.
- Technical review of power system study reports, engineering documents, and design documents.
- Ensures technical compliance to required codes and standards.
- Watches for cost savings opportunities on projects.
- Collaborates with project team members on interdisciplinary technical deliverables, as defined by the RACI.

Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Chemical Engineering or Petroleum Engineering required.
- Professional Engineering License and 10 years experience practicing discipline-specific engineering on multidiscipline project teams;
OR
- 12 years experience practicing discipline-specific engineering on multidiscipline project teams required.
- 5 years of management experience required.

- Demonstrated ability of leadership skills with experience leading teams through strategic processes and aligning with peer group project needs and timelines.
- Experience with HYSYS, Unisim, ProMax, and/or VMG Symmetry, as well as proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Ability to self-direct and have a sense of responsibility for own tasks, deliverables, and timelines, as well as have an awareness of own tasks, and how it impacts the team and deliverables.
Supervisory Expectations:
- The position supervises or manages the work of at least two full-time employees or the equivalent. The position includes decisions or recommendations regarding personnel actions such as hiring, disciplinary action, and changes in pay and terminations over time.
