A Little About Us: ZAP is a full-service engineering, design, and construction management firm servicing the oil & gas, heavy industrial, mining, and manufacturing sectors. From our Bethlehem, PA office, we execute projects across North America spanning from California to Florida and Canada down to Mexico. Our projects range in size from simple engineering studies or maintenance repairs to full-scale design of large facilities. ZAP operates at a fast-pace while providing a team-centric approach to our work.
About your role:
This is a hands-on, full-time position with day-to-day duties that include performing design and sizing of equipment, producing datasheets and specifications, conducting calculations and analyses, 3D modeling support, construction drawing reviews, and any other mechanical components utilized in heavy industrial/manufacturing or required by our clients. The Mechanical Engineering Supervisor also oversees and supports a team of two or more Mechanical Engineers and designers.
Essential Duties and Major Responsibilities
- Mechanical Engineering
- Determine and review the equipment capacities and specifications for main equipment and auxiliary machinery ensuring sizing calculations are correct
- Produces equipment data sheets and specifications
- Develop and supervise the preparation of equipment flowsheets, plot plan and general arrangement drawings
- Manage creation of bill of materials, installation and operation instructions, specifications as required by project
- Prepare contractor bid packages and perform technical review of contractor bids
- Coordinates with other discipline engineers and designers
- Construction Documents o Produces line and equipment lists.
- Performs 3D modeling support & isometric reviews.
Reviews construction drawings and documents.
- Construction Support
o Performs site walkdowns including as-builts to support construction efforts.
- Works with contractors to answer Requests for Information (RFIs), produce project cost and bid packages, and mechanical scope of work documents.
- Project Quality Assurance and Quality Control o Conducts technical review of discipline engineering deliverables.
- Performs discipline engineering tasks within the mechanical knowledge base. • Mentoring o Acts as Engineer-of-Record and review/seal designs created by other team members. o Assist with training/mentoring less experienced engineers and designers.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree required. Preferably in Mechanical Engineering.
Type of Experience Needed to be Successful
- Minimum of 10-years’ experience practicing discipline specific engineering on multidiscipline project teams required.
Specialized Skills
- Professional Engineering license preferred.
- Advanced communication (written, verbal and presentation) skills, to deliver complex information effectively and align people with the needs of the project/team.
- Advanced problem-solving skills, to be able to manage complex situations with multiple layers and resolve to solution anticipating needs now and into the future.
- Advanced awareness of workflow, and project tradeoffs to make decisions based on needs now and into the future.
- Highest level of leadership skills with experience leading teams through strategic processes and aligned with peer group project needs and timelines.
- Expert user of technology and software required to execute daily tasks.
- Must have a valid, active driver’s license and ability to maintain a good driving record. • Proficient with 3D CAD tools, Autodesk CAD Suite preferred Proficient with Excel.
Supervisory Expectations:
- The position supervises or manages the work of at least two full-time employees or the equivalent. The position includes decisions or recommendations regarding personnel actions such as hiring, disciplinary action, overtime, changes in pay and terminations.
Independence of Action
- Results are defined; the incumbent sets own goals and determines how to accomplish results with few or no guidelines to follow. Although precedents may exist, supervisor/manager provides broad guidance and overall direction.

Salary : $114,400 - $166,400
