What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified medication position at Zarrow Pointe?
Shifts;
2 : 30PM-11 : 00PM Monday-Friday
POSITION TITLE : Certified Medication Aide
REQUIREMENTS :
- Must possess, as a minimum, a high school education or equivalency.
- Must be a graduate of an approved Nurse’s Aide Training Program, and also have a CMA certification from an approved training facility.
- Must have six months experience in Assisted Living preferable, but not necessary.
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to speak English in an understandable manner.
- Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must be able to see and hear, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work efficiently with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
- Must be in good health and demonstrate emotional stability.
- Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people with the facility.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS :
Reports to the Charge Nurse and Care Coordinator
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :
- Pass ice at beginning of shift.
- Answer call lights and assist CNA’s.
- Provide residents assistance with bathing, dressing, toileting, incontinent care, etc. as needed.
- Provide residents assistance with personal care needs in grooming such as with hair, nails, teeth, shaving, etc. as needed.
- Assure that residents are dressed appropriately.
- Provide assistance to residents with clothing selection or bed making, etc.
- Assistance with teaching the residents skills in self-help i.e., bathing oral care, etc.
- Take vital signs and record them as ordered in EMR.
- Administer and record medications. Be responsible to re-order medication before it runs out. Document in medication order log book.
Document when medications are received at the facility
- Record the discontinued medication for destruction and give to Care Coordinator of unit.
- Provide an personal attention as requested or required
- Help orient new residents.
- Notify Charge Nurse or Care Coordinator of Director of Nursing when there is a need for any medical attention or any changes in resident’s condition.
- Report any accident or incident to Charge Nurse or Care Coordinator or Director of Nursing.
- Help maintain the self-respect, personal dignity, and safety of each resident.
- Work co-operatively with all other staff and relate favorably to residents and to their families.
- Refer any questions that may arise in regard to a resident or his / her medications, etc. to the Charge Nurse or Care Coordinator or Director of Nursing.
- Be familiar with and follow the confidentiality rules and regulations regarding residents and their charts.
- Notify Charge Nurse of all PTN orders administered. Document Pain Rate and site in EMR.
- Be familiar with Residents Rights.
- Do not make doctor phone calls without consulting with the Charge Nurse or Care Coordinator or Director of Nursing.
- Report to the on-coming Charge Nurse when leaving shift.
- Be responsible for reading and adhering to all policies of Zarrow Point and Health Care Center, Inc.
- Assure careful treatment of equipment and utilization of supplies.
- Participate in Continuing education and in-services.

- Must be able to write the English language in a legible and understandable manner.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies / personnel, and the general public.
- Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as, the willingness to handle difficult residents.
- Must be willing to seek out new methods and principals and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
