Summary
Responsible for converting patient paper medical records into an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system efficiently, ensuring accessibility for physicians, clinicians, and authorized healthcare staff for patient treatment and care.
Primary Responsibilities
- Ensure all pages contain correct patient identification and barcode for form recognition.
- Review paper records against electronic documents to confirm image quality and identify missing files.
- Verify and correct image/document errors as needed.
- Accurately determine the destination of records and loose reports.
- Follow established schedules and expectations set by HIM Management.
- Report any record discrepancies or inconsistencies to HIM Management.
- Maintain productivity and quality standards as per current guidelines.
- Perform additional assigned tasks as required.
On-Campus Scanning Duties
- Conduct near-time scanning of active and discharged patient records on nursing floors.
- Retrieve and scan discharged records from all units, including outpatient and emergency departments, preparing them for transport.
- Process loose documents promptly.
- Notify the HIM Document Imaging (DI) Lead when storage supplies are low and restock as needed.
- Use designated discharge logs to verify receipt of all records.
- Communicate effectively with nursing and ancillary staff regarding record locations and any missing documents.
Job RequirementsPreferred Knowledge & Experience:
- Healthcare experience required.
- Experience with health records is advantageous.
- Proficiency in Epic or other hospital systems (Cerner, PowerCharts, Meditech).
- Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Critical thinking, attention to detail, and accuracy.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining focus.
- Capacity to work at a Walking Work Station, standing/walking for extended periods.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in scanning and clerical tasks.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
Education & Experience
- Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: Vocational, technical, or undergraduate education.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $22.00 per hour
