Job Summary:
Maintain vehicles in accordance with the needs defined by company standards, and the Department of Transportation requirements. Work collaboratively and communicate constructively in a team effort with garage personnel to achieve overall objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with the garage’s Office Administrator to manage, direct and coordinate all activities related to inspection, preventative maintenance and repairing of vehicles or associated equipment. Review work orders, assess identified problems and plan work procedures.
- Ensure all service and repairs are completed in accordance with shop standards and DOT requirements.
- Provide help and assistance to other garage personnel as needed and as availability allows.
- Work with the Anew Site Manager and the garage’s Office Administrator to professionally grow the Garage outside customer base in accordance with shop standards and DOT requirements.
- Assist Site Manager in the maintenance and upkeep of the building and grounds on an as needed basis.
- Ensures facility compliance with current federal, state, local or corporate regulations. Consult with Human Resources, Safety and/or Environmental Department as appropriate.
- Conform with and abide by all vehicle regulations, policies, work procedures, instruction, and all safety requirements.
- Provide a “Customer Service” attitude when interacting with internal and external customers while accomplishing work, production, and achieving quality standards.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe workstation/environment at all times.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- This position directly supervises other garage mechanics and wash bay personnel.
- Assist with interviewing, selecting, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education and Experience:
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred.
- Experience: Three to five years related experience and/or training, preferred.
- State Certified Mechanic or be able to become certified within sixty (60) days of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic components of a vehicle
- Knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems and scan tool operations
- Ability to use a laptop computer to diagnose and set truck computer.
- Ability to operate hand and power tools.
- Ability to drive a tractor-trailer short distance.
- Ability to maintain good attendance habits.
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and management.
- Basic math and communication skills.
- Able to be aware of all relevant SOPs as per Company policy as they are related to the position covered by this Job Description
- Able to conform with and abide by all regulations, work procedures, instruction, and all safety, quality and environmental policies.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and climb or balance.
- Frequently required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
- Occasionally required to sit and taste or smell.
- Must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Frequently exposed to high, precarious places, fumes, or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock and vibration.
