Job Summary:
Develops, implements, and maintains procedures and programs to ensure outstanding food/feed quality and minimize food/feed safety risks while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops, implements, and monitors programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with all federal, state and customer food safety regulations across all facilities.
- Oversees food safety and quality programs at co-manufacturers, freight, and ingredient suppliers to ensure compliance with ZFS standards, federal, and state regulations, including internal label review for co-manufactured products.
- Develops, implements, and enforces auxiliary food safety certifications such as, SQF food safety certification, at facilities where required.
- Develop, implement, and monitor quality programs to ensure compliance with appropriate certification requirements at facilities. Verifies that the site QA team members are working with the team members to execute accordingly. Providing support to site specific owner of programs post program launch.
- Manage quality and food safety improvement projects at ZFS facilities.
- Completes ZFS and other company affiliates audits to ensure compliance with regulatory, certification, and company standards. Directs appropriate actions to eliminate them as required and identify points of opportunity for improvement in programs.
- Interacts with customers as necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Completes customer questionnaires and manages customer auditing processes through identification and prompt resolution of any identified issues.
- Evaluates company food/feed quality and safety conditions and promptly resolves any identified concerns. Interprets data and observations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry guidelines and advises management accordingly.
- Represents Company in dealings with government officials enforcing food/feed safety regulations.
- Responsible for ensuring all non-conformances, as a result of regulatory, certification or customer audits across all companies are corrected appropriately and within the required time.
- Works collaboratively with the cross functional teams to ensure food safety and quality is synchronized/maintained in programs.
- Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instruction, and all safety requirements.
- Provides a “Customer Service” attitude when interacting with internal and external customers while accomplishing work, production, and achieving quality standards.
- Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe workstation/environment at all times.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Multiple Direct Reports.
- Carry out and oversee interviewing, selecting, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education and Experience:
- Education: Bachelor’s in food science or related science field
- Experience: 3-5 years
- Ability to obtain required certifications (HACCP, SQF, etc.)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Advance knowledge of all federal, state, and customer food safety regulations.
- Excellent leadership and management skills.
- Problem solving and resolution skills at both a strategic and functional level.
- Demonstrate the ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks.
- Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
- Ability to plan, direct, coordinate, and budget activities concerning food safety programs.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Frequently required to walk, stand, sit.
- Use of stairs and ladders may be required.
- Occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds or more.
- Operate in an office and production environment. Production environment could include frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme heat or cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration.
- The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
- This position may require use of a respirator.
