Job Summary:
Implements and follows programs to minimize feed/food safety risks while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and quality expectations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of food safety and quality programs at the facility. Ensuring that the programs are not only compliant with regulations/certifications but also sustainable for operations. This includes, but is not limited to programs supporting FDA, Global Food Safety Initiative, Sustainability, Kosher, HALAL, and Non-GMO.
- Responsible for monitoring food safety and quality throughout the manufacturing process, including trending product data, ensuring testing equipment is functioning properly, and sending out samples for third party analysis.
- Performs internal inspections, validations, and verifications on activities.
- Responsible for representing the facility as a key contact for food safety and quality audits/inspections.
- Foster food safety and food quality culture through open communication and education with plant managers, engineers, and employees.
- Responsible for onsite food safety and food quality training for team members.
- Manage the site execution of prerequisite program verification and monitoring. This will include but is not limited to coordinating foreign material verifications with the operations team, pest control monitoring, supplier management, calibrations, and recall.
- Work with the onsite team to investigate and create preventative action based on quality events/customer concerns. Manage the investigation, root cause analysis and resolution of customer issues. Implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Perform inspections on products, equipment, and machinery. Inspect and receive food and feed ingredients (refinery process aids, food grade packaging materials, feed ingredients, etc.)
- Calibration of lab equipment.
- Lead Food Safety, Food Quality, customer complaint and monthly SQF Management review meetings.
- Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instruction, and all safety requirements.
- Provides a “Customer Service” attitude when interacting with internal and external customers while accomplishing work, production, and achieving quality standards.
- Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe workstation/environment at all times.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Education and Experience:
- Education: Bachelor’s of Science or related field required
- Experience: 3-5 years
- Experience in managing audits is preferred.
- Possesses or be able to obtain/maintain certification as a SQF Practitioner and complete PCQI training for Human and Animal Food Production.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Frequently required to walk, stand, sit.
- Use of stairs and ladders may be required.
- Occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds or more.
- Operate in an office and production environment. Production environment could include frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme heat or cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
