Position Details
Zeeland Public Schools has a great opportunity for a Facility Maintenance Supervisor to join our team. The Facility Maintenance Supervisor will be directly responsible to the Director of Facilities for day to day operations of the district facilities and personnel.
The person must have the leadership abilities to maintain and improve maintenance, custodial and ground operations in an efficient manner.
Responsibilities :
- Assist the Director of Facilities in the direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Maintenance, Grounds and Custodial departments.
- Manage and work alongside staff installing, inspecting, repairing, and maintaining building systems including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, safety, and waste management.
- Interviewing, hiring, and training maintenance and custodial employees to include planning, assigning and directing work;
appraising performance; and resolving complaints and problems.
- Conducts routine and periodic inspections of schools and facilities for maintenance and custodial operations of both school year and summer activities.
- Develop an annual priority list for maintenance of buildings and facilities for areas such as but not limited to carpet, gym floors, painting, exterior and interior repairs.
- Determines and initiates the proper actions to be taken to effectively and expeditiously complete repairs in accordance with school policy, sound maintenance practices, and priority and urgency of operations.
- Provide training as needed for custodial cleaning, safety, cleaning equipment and all associated cleaning products.
Qualifications :
- Post high school training and / or experience in maintenance operations, building construction and maintenance with knowledge of mechanical operations such as plumbing, electrical, heating, and ventilation systems.
- Associate degree or Bachelor’s degree in Management, Leadership, or related field preferred.
- Prior leadership experience is preferred.
- Must hold a valid Michigan driver’s license in order to drive between multiple sites.
- Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule as needed.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from staff, community, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak clearly and effectively in oral communication before vendors, administrators, and staff and in written communication.
- Ability to manage a budget with basic accounting skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the school community.
- Ability to operate a personal computer and related software to include Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
- Obtain and maintain Certified Pool Operators (CPO) certification.
