Position Details
Zeeland Public Schools has a wonderful opportunity for a Secondary Orchestra / Performing Arts Teacher. The Secondary Orchestra / Performing Arts Teacher instructs students in learning how to play the violin, viola, cello or string bass in solo, chamber and full ensemble settings.
Responsibilities :
- Teach district approved curriculum that covers (but is not limited to) musical concepts such as pitch, rhythm, expression, arranging and composition.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Sing and model the playing of an instrument. Be prepared to demonstrate technical skills on each instrument.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional material and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. Student academic levels range from those with an IEP to those who have come from an elementary gifted and talented program as well as those enrolled in the Spanish immersion program.
- Provide summative and formative assessment and feedback in a variety of forms.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Plan and execute individual school concerts, recitals and other music performances.
- The school community and public appreciate the times orchestra ensembles enhance their events. Preparing ensembles for those extra-curricular events is an important part of this position.
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals; establish and communicate clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects.
- Assist the administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct. For the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Maintain inventory of instruments, equipment and the music library.
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
