Parts Driver
A parts delivery driver works for an auto parts outlet or machine parts distributor. They typically make delivery runs to take parts to local dealerships and repair shops to replenish inventory. Many car repair shops maintain a relatively low stock of less common parts and place orders as needed with local parts stores.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Auto parts outlets receive delivery orders throughout the day. The first step in the process is to pull select parts from inventory. Depending upon the volume of orders, a driver may pull one customer's order and deliver it right away and come back for the next. Or, they may take several orders at once in a given area and make all of the deliveries on one run.
- Most outlets that provide delivery services have their own trucks, cars or vans for deliveries. A regular driver is generally responsible for basic maintenance of the vehicle and alerting a manager for needed repairs. Once orders are pulled, they load the parts into the vehicle. On small orders, they might simply set a box on the front seat. Larger orders may require the use of a dolly to load up the back end of the vehicle.
