Job Description

The Process Engineer is responsible for optimizing and improving the manufacturing processes, ensuring efficient production, and maintaining high-quality standards. This experienced Engineer will contribute to the plant's overall operational excellence and successful delivery of products to customers.   

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:  

 

  • Perform duties in accordance with company safety policies, ensure the safe and continuous operation of all machinery, and report unsafe conditions. 
  • Process Optimization: Continuously evaluate and enhance the manufacturing processes to maximize efficiency, throughput, and product quality. 
  • Equipment Maintenance and Performance: Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure smooth operation of the tube mill equipment, troubleshoot issues, and implement preventive maintenance plans to minimize downtime. 
  • Cost Reduction and Efficiency: Identify opportunities to reduce production costs, improve yield, and optimize resource utilization while maintaining or enhancing product quality. 
  • Automation and Technology: Evaluate and implement automation technologies, data analysis tools, and process control systems to improve overall plant performance. 
  • Process Documentation: Create and maintain detailed documentation of process parameters, operating rates, and equipment specifications to facilitate effective training, troubleshooting, and knowledge transfer. 
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead or participate in cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies. 
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety protocols, regulatory requirements, and environmental standards within the plant operations. 
  • Training and Support: Provide technical support to production teams, ensuring proper understanding and execution of processes. 
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with various departments, including production, maintenance, quality assurance, and engineering, to address production challenges and implement effective solutions. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
  • Regular, predictable onsite attendance per the posted schedule is an essential function of this role. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.  Advanced degree is a plus. 
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in process engineering.  High-speed in-line, highly automated tube mill manufacturing experience a plus. 
  • Quality and Lean Manufacturing: Experience with quality control methodologies, statistical process control, and Lean Manufacturing principles.Good communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Previous experience with precision instruments (micrometers, calipers etc.) preferred 

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: 

 

  • Problem-solving skills: Proven ability to analyze complex production issues, troubleshoot problems, and implement effective solutions. 
  • Communication and Leadership: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and collaborate effectively. 
  • Detail-oriented: Strong attention to detail and a focus on maintaining high standards of quality and precision. 
  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic manufacturing environment and adapt to changing priorities and demands. 
  • Safety Consciousness: Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to safety regulations and protocols. 

 

PREFERRED SKILLS: 

 

  • Strong technical expertise: In-depth knowledge of tube mill operations, production processes, and equipment, including understanding of material handling, forming, welding, sizing, and finishing. 
  • Automation and Control Systems: Proficiency in implementing and optimizing automation technologies, PLCs, HMIs, and data analysis tools. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

 

The information below outlines the aggregated physical demands of all positions within the Rochelle, IL Facility. All shop floor job positions and tasks were considered to determine and objectively quantify the physical and cognitive demands that each Rochelle teammate requires to successfully carry out their duties and responsibilities. 

 

In addition to physical capabilities, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and required equipment that may require to be operated is also included. These factors should be considered when determining physical capabilities as well as cognitive competence. 

 

Occasional: Squatting/crouching, kneeling/crawling, lifting above shoulder, carrying

Frequent: Sitting, stair climbing, ladder climbing, bending, twisting, lifting floor to waist, lifting waist to shoulder, grasping, working above shoulders, reaching in all directions, pushing/pulling, neck flextion, elbow, forearm, wrist flex and rotation, using fine motor skill dexterity

Constant: Standing, walking

 

PPE REQUIREMENTS: 

 

The following personal protective equipment and clothing may be required to be worn continuously by some/all job positions. 

 

  • Enhanced visibility work uniforms 
  • Various types of eye protection (Safety glasses, goggles, etc.) 
  • Head protection such as hard hats or climbing helmets 
  • Fall arrest harness 
  • Hearing protection (standard and/or custom ear plugs) 
  • Foot protection (Steel toed footwear that may include metatarsal protection) 
  • Respiratory protection (dust masks and/or respirators) 
  • Welding helmet 
  • Welding attire 
  • Various types of face shields

MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT: 

The following machinery and equipment may be required to be operated by teammates frequently – constantly. 

 

  • Various hand tools 
  • Overhead cranes 
  • Various types of forklifts, industrial trucks, and elevated work platforms 
  • Various types of heavy machinery 
  • Welding and Cutting Equipment 

 

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS AND DEMANDS:

 

Environmental Conditions: Hot, cold, outdoor/indoor, dry/humid, noise, vibration, moving objects, working at heights

Sensory Demands: Hearing, speech, colour vision, near/far vision, spatial perception, tactile, smell

Materials Potentially Used/Exposed to: Compressed gases, drywall and drywall dust, cement board, paints and solvents, other hazordous products
