What are the responsibilities and job description for the Machine Learning Summer Internship (PhD) position at Zendar?
Department: Engineering
Location: Berkeley CA - USA
Compensation: $55.00 / hour
At Zendar, we believe radar has been underestimated as a sensor for autonomy—not because of its physics, but due to the limitations of existing algorithms. By building a modern perception stack and leveraging the millions of training samples we have collected, we've demonstrated that radar can be just as powerful as cameras for robotics applications. Our innovative Semantic Spectrum product positions radar as a critical component in the future of autonomous systems.
Your Role
The Perception and Machine Learning Team is looking for a Deep Learning Research Intern to join us in advancing radar perception technology. As an intern, you'll work on groundbreaking projects under the mentorship of our in-house research leads, helping to develop a radar-centric stack that will define the future of multi-modal automotive perception.
Your Responsibilities:
Tackle complex perception challenges to push the boundaries of radar technology.
Research, design, and implement cutting-edge deep neural network architectures for:
- Multi-sensor camera-radar fusion
- Foundation models for radar perception
- NeRF based multi-sensor calibration
- Diffusion models for radar simulation
- Or propose and explore your own impactful ideas!
- Currently pursuing a PhD in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related quantitative field.
- Proficiency in Python programming.
- Solid understanding of challenges in the machine learning pipeline, including: Data collection and processing, model design, and model evaluation
- Hands-on experience with at least one deep learning framework (e.g., PyTorch).
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Practical experience with perception tasks such as segmentation, object detection, or tracking.
- Knowledge of advanced machine learning techniques, including:
- Self-supervised learning
- Incorporating physics into deep learning models
- Neural radiance fields
- Ability to leverage diverse datasets, e.g., images and point clouds, for perception tasks.
- Experience working with radar and/or camera data.
- Within 1-2 years of graduation.
- Be part of a young, venture-backed company in an emerging market.
- Full time summer internship with compensation at $55.00/hour
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of experts in hardware, signal processing, and machine learning.
- Enjoy daily catered lunches and access to a fully stocked fridge.
- Make a tangible impact on the future of radar perception technology.
