Position Overview

specializes in management and technology support services for a variety of federal agencies and commercial organizations. We are reviewing resumes to support current and future Sheet Metal Mechanic vacancies at our FRCSW program at MCAS Miramar, San Diego CA. The Sheet Metal Mechanic will be working at Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Detachment (AIMD) / MALS-16 performing DEPOT (D) level work on Ch-53's and MV-22 Blades. Individuals with experience in O-Level blade repair maintenance on one of the following type model series P-3, C-2, E-2 will also be considered.

 

Description

The Sheet Metal Mechanic will be required to perform Level-III also known as DEPOT Level repair on H-53 and V-22 model aircrafts. This repair is required when the requirement of Maintenance is beyond the capability of Intermediate Level (BCMI).The Artesian will follow all applicable established procedures, instructions, guidelines, and technical data from all DoD Services to provide knowledgeable, skilled labor personnel to ensure aircraft complete the production Structural/Sheet Metal phase in accordance with the production schedule for military aircraft. Specific responsibilities may include:  

 

  • Performing visual inspections for damage to aircraft surfaces and components; inspecting for corrosion, and recording findings using proper documentation. Inspecting aircraft for dings, dents, corrosion,lose or missing rivets; taping windows, landing gear, plastic and fiberglass to protect from chemicals; acid etching and washing, priming, and applying epoxy and paint
  • Performing structural repairs by manufacturing and installing new parts, and reinforcing, patching, and replacing defective parts
  • Performing modifications to aircraft structures and conducting final inspections
  • Utilizing precision tools to perform structural repairs and modifications to exacting standards in accordance with provided technical data
  • Utilizing mechanical and hand blending techniques of major aircraft structural components using high speed grinders, sanding blocks, DA sanders, and similar tools
  • Preparing the aircraft, panel, and part surfaces prior to coating/painting using mechanical stripping methods
  • Providing maintenance support such as mechanical stripping, and/or sand applications on aircraft, panels, and parts 
  • Working independently interpreting blueprints and engineering specifications to facilitate aircraft service change installations
  • Fabricating metal repair and modifying aircraft sheet metal and composite structure and various aircraft component parts
  •    

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 2 years-experience on aircraft as a structure/sheet metal mechanic. Military aircraft experience preferred  
  • Qualified candidates will have the ability to utilize complex shop mathematics to figure irregular curves, angles, and pitch; experience with pattern and template making; and be skilled with the use of a variety of complex measuring instruments.
  • Experience in composite fabrication and repair in civilian industry.
  • Previous aircraft sheet metal experience is required; composite experience on the MV-22 or CH-53 aircraft is a must.

Physical Effort: Work requires standing, stooping, bending, and reaching. Frequent handling, lifting, and carrying objects that weigh 40-50 lbs.

 

Working Conditions: Work is performed in closed-in areas that are usually noisy and dirty, and where there is a constant danger to the skin and eyes from flying metal chips and abrasive particles; skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants, and abrasive compounds; danger to fingers, hands, and other parts of the body from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating pieces, and moving parts of machines.
