Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Labor and Delivery Nurse to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will provide exceptional care to expectant mothers during labor and delivery, ensuring a safe and positive experience for both the mother and newborn. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to monitor patients, assist in childbirth, and provide education and support to families.
Responsibilities
- Monitor the health status of mothers and infants during labor, including vital signs and fetal heart rates.
- Assist with labor management techniques, including pain relief options.
- Provide support and guidance to mothers throughout the labor process.
- Perform necessary medical procedures such as gastric lavage when required.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement care plans.
- Educate patients on post-delivery care, breastfeeding, and newborn care practices.
- Maintain infection control protocols to ensure a safe environment for patients.
- Document patient information accurately in electronic health records (eClinicalWorks).
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to maternal care.
Skills
- Proficient in infection control practices to safeguard patient health.
- Knowledge of workers' compensation law as it relates to maternity care.
- Ability to ventilate patients effectively when necessary.
- Experience with ostomy care is a plus.
- Familiarity with travel nursing protocols is beneficial for flexible assignments.
- Understanding of MDS (Minimum Data Set) assessments as they pertain to maternal health.
- Competence in providing assisted living support for postpartum recovery.
- Strong communication skills for effective patient education and collaboration with healthcare teams.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining compassion and empathy.
