What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mgr Underwriting Ops - P&C position at Zenith?
This role is eligible to participate in Zenith’s hybrid work schedule which provides the flexibility to work from home on select days of the week according to the in-office schedule established by regional executive leadership.
Directly oversees the day-to-day operation of underwriting support staff (including Associate Underwriters with limited underwriting authority). Will manage an active territory, with duties including policy input, rating, underwriting and communicating Zenith's philosophy. Role will have underwriting authority.
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conducts annual performance reviews on employees.
- Participates in hiring decisions, coaching, and disciplinary actions as necessary.
- Monitor and maintain overflow inbox.
- Provides on-going performance feedback to direct reports.
- Addresses performance management issues timely and appropriately.
- Uses file reviews to ensure proper protocols are followed and quality standards are met.
- Selects highly qualified new hires for open department positions.
- Conducts regularly scheduled meetings to discuss team results and recognize employees; maintains open communication within the team.
- Assigns staff to special projects or task forces for development.
- Provides appropriate supervision, coaching, and mentoring to assigned staff.
- Assign and maintain letters of authority for Associate Underwriters.
- Creates an environment within the team that fosters creativity, innovation, teamwork, engagement, and growth.
- Works very closely with others in the department and branch to promote teamwork.
- Work with Underwriting AVPS to establish ongoing service goals for AUS
- Oversees the documentation of workflows and processes.
- Provides training.
- Reviews and analyzes workloads periodically to ensure balance.
- Ensures that the team’s work is completed timely, accurately, and consistently with policies and procedures.
- Participates in phone conversations with, and visits to, agency partners
- Apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Works productively and harmoniously with others on a consistent basis.
- Respond positively to direction and feedback on performance.
- Consistently maintain professional and appropriate demeanor.
- Performs other duties/projects as assigned.
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent combination of training/experience. required
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of training/experience. required
Experience Qualifications
- 5 Years progressively responsible, related work experience required
- Previous work experience demonstrating progressively responsible leadership readiness required
Skills and Abilities
- Strong oral and written communication skills used to explain, teach, and document.
- Strong reading and math skills.
- Knowledge of property and casualty policy rules.
- PC literacy required.
- Demonstrated data analysis skills to determine workloads and strategies for peak periods.
The expected salary range for this position is $96,882.04 to $121,102.54. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, geographic location, and other job-related factors as permitted by law.
Qualifications may warrant placement in a different job level
