Position Overview:
Collaborating under general supervision, the Litigation Legal Assistant provides comprehensive support to attorneys and paralegals throughout all phases of litigation. This role specializes in discovery management, document organization (collection, preservation, review, and production), and maintaining electronic case files. A strong grasp of legal terminology, civil procedures, court systems, and document preparation standards is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Document Preparation & Management:
- Draft, format, and finalize legal documents, correspondence, pleadings, and briefs using advanced knowledge of legal terminology, civil procedure, and discovery protocols.
- File court documents via traditional and electronic methods (e-filing), ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local rules.
- Organize and maintain comprehensive case files, adhering to firm policies and best practices.
- Case Coordination & Deadlines:
- Manage attorney calendars, including scheduling hearings, depositions, conferences, and travel arrangements.
- Track critical deadlines, court appearances, discovery responses, and evidence collection to ensure timely compliance.
- Technology & Administrative Support:
- Utilize Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Pro, and legal software to generate tables of contents (TOC), tables of authority (TOA), and other litigation-related materials.
- Process attorney expense reimbursements and maintain confidentiality of sensitive client and case information.
- Adapt quickly to new software and workflows, including legal practice management tools.
- Collaboration & Compliance:
- Liaise professionally with internal teams, external counsel, court personnel, and clients.
- Exercise sound judgment to prioritize tasks, resolve challenges, and escalate issues as needed.
Required Skills & Competencies:
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, with meticulous proofreading and editing skills.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adept at multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in federal/state e-filing systems and litigation document formatting.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal oversight.
- Strong technical aptitude; familiarity with legal practice management software such as SurePoint and expense management tools like Concur is advantageous.
Education & Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in litigation legal support within a law firm or corporate legal setting.
- Background in bankruptcy law is strongly preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $52,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
