Position Overview: One of our Department of State contracts is seeking a qualified Data Engineer I (Junior) to expand and optimize data pipeline architecture and improve data flow and collection processes for cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will have significant experience collaborating with software developers, database architects, data analysts, and data scientists to support data initiatives. The selected candidate will ensure that data delivery architecture remains consistent across ongoing projects.
This role requires a self-directed professional who can effectively support the data needs of multiple teams, systems, and products. Responsibilities include developing, optimizing, and owning data pipelines and workflows, as well as redesigning or rearchitecting them as necessary. The work involves processing critical data that supports the State Department's efforts in areas such as arms control, climate initiatives, and IT service delivery.
Clearance Requirement: Candidates must hold and maintain a minimum Secret security clearance to be considered for this position
Work Location: Springfield, VA
Work Schedule (Hybrid): Three (3) days onsite at the customer's facility and two (2) remote days; work schedule is subject to change based on customer needs and without prior notice
- Create data tools for analytics and data scientist team members that support innovative and industry leading products.
- Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture
- Assemble large, complex datasets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements
- Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
- Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources to include but not limited to SQL, Databricks, and Azure ‘big data’ technologies
- Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in the data systems
Required Qualifications:
- Candidate must be a United States Citizen and present proof of Citizenship, if selected
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT or similar fields or relevant work experience
- Two (2 ) years of experience as a data engineer or a similar role
- Hands-on experience with wide variety of data platforms such as SQL database design, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server
- Working knowledge of programming languages including Jira, PySpark, Python, R, etc.
- Capable of supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment
- Basic knowledge of Agile Scrum
Bonus Qualifications:
- Data engineering certification (e.g., IBM Certified Data Engineer)
- Experience with Palantir Foundry or Databricks
- Technical expertise with data models, data mining, and segmentation techniques
- Strong understanding of data pipelines; should be able to work with REST, SOAP, FTP, HTTP, and ODBC
- Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable data stores
- Familiar with using ETL Solutions like Azure Data Factory to assist in the extracting, transforming, and loading of data into databases or other storage types
- Familiar with Cloud Platforms
