Position Title : Senior Engineer / Civil Design

Zia Engineering and Environmental Consultants, LLC (Zia) has immediate openings in the Las Cruces, NM office for Senior Civil Design Engineers with exceptional design, transit / transportation, and water experience.

Zia is actively engaged in the planning and design of streets, highways / freeways, as well as site work, storm water handling, hydrology, and hydraulics. Our leadership team is looking for Civil Engineer / Project Managers with 8 to 10 years of professional experience. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated prior experience as the Project Manager / Project Engineer with direct responsibility, or as the Lead Engineer reporting directly to the Project Manager. Experience in drainage, grading, wet utilities, dry utility coordination, right of way engineering, cost estimating, specification writing, and report writing is a plus.

The Senior Engineer serves in a lead role to provide QA / QC support and mentorship to other civil division staff; duties will include providing technical, marketing, and project management support for civil, water, wastewater, and environmental engineering activities for non-federal and federal projects; ensuring timely, quality, and cost-effective work; and performing other duties as assigned.

Must have the knowledge to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of engineering and regulatory requirements, and the engineering process. The candidate must possess excellent written and oral communication skills and have the ability to communicate at a high level as primary author of technical reports; interface with clients, government regulators, other contractors, and other project stakeholders. Must work well with others in order to successfully respond to proposals, manage project teams, and correspond with clients, funding agencies, and regulatory agencies. Requirements include :

• Demonstrated experience in leading design, design collaboration, and / or design management
• Experience in transit / transportation and water

• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects of various sizes simultaneously
• Proficiency in one or both AutoCAD / Civil 3D and Microstation / In-Roads a plus

Education and Certificates, Licenses, Registrations : A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or related Engineering field, is required. Degree must be from an accredited University. This position requires a current Professional Engineer (PE) license (NM preferred) with the ability to obtain reciprocity in other states within six months.

Experience : A minimum of 8 years of professional civil engineering experience is required. Professional experience must include at least three years of direct major project management. A minimum of 8 years of design experience is also required.

Language Skills : Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common engineering and technical journals, financial reports, and legal contracts; and effectively present information, and respond to inquiries or complaints from clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and / or other engineers and team members; ability to present information and deliverables in a manner that exudes quality, commitment, and service.

Special Considerations : Successful candidate must be able to pass a physical examination and be able to lift up to 50 pounds. This position requires a valid driver’s license and ability to obtain security clearance up to and including secret, if required. Drug testing may be required.
