Summary:
Assist the maintenance team in maintaining all office and plant facility electrically operated components by providing knowledge and skills necessary to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair or replace all worn or bad electrical components. Use preventive and predictive maintenance measures to ensure reliability of all electrical components. Upgrade existing components as well as installation of new electrically operated capital improvements.
Requires proficiency and understanding of the essential work instructions and operating and quality control procedures that govern:
- Troubleshoot and diagnose electrically operated machinery with the use of electrical troubleshooting devices, overhead cranes, hoists, forklifts, hand tools and power tools in order to replace worn and broken parts. Reassemble, test for proper and safe operation before returning to normal production usage.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance measures such as visual and mechanical inspections of all electrical components. Perform thermograph scans of electrical switch gear.
- Installation, setup and startup of capital improvement assets.
- Building of new electrical panels and upgrading of existing panels.
- Quarterly testing/documentation of safeties of natural gas fired gas trains. Quarterly testing/documentation of press high temp auto-shutdown circuit. Annual inspection and cleaning of all electrical switch gear.
- Changing of bearings in electric motors.
- Re-lamp and re-ballast office and plant facility lighting.
- Maintain documentation of electrical work performed for quarterly report to City of Portland Electrical Inspector.
- Maintain parts inventory of all electrical components. Keep parts inventory well organized for easy retrieval of needed parts. Submission of material request order forms for needed supplies.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards in electrical shop area to provide a clean, orderly and safe work environment.
Qualifications
Work environment:
- Exposure to inclement weather, dust, dirt, heat, cold, damp, noise, smoke fumes, graphite, grease, oils, cleaners, adhesives, sealants, solvents, refractory dust, ceramic fibers, flammable liquids and gases.
- Cranes, forklifts, man-lifts, lathes, mills, drill presses, hand tools, power tools, cutting torches, welders, ironworkers, saws, grinders, air hoist, thread cutting machines, pipe and tubing benders, port-a-powers, come-a-longs and hose assembly machine.
- Stored energy, confined spaces, flammable liquids, flammable gases, heights, slips and falls, sparks, cuts, pinch points, heat, inhalation of atmospheric contaminants and exposure to chemicals.
Physical demands:
- Must be in good physical condition and have the strength, endurance, agility, and coordination to meet the demands of the job at hand.
- Must have the ability to withstand a lot of standing, bending, pulling, walking and lifting up to a maximum of 75 lbs.
- Must be able to climb on and around machinery.
- Must be able to work at elevated heights.
- Wear protective equipment including coveralls or long sleeves, gloves, hardhat, hearing protection, metatarsal steel toed boots, welding hood, respirator, fall protection equipment, goggles, atmospheric tester and safety glasses with side shields.
Required education and experience:
- High School education or equivalent plus 5 years minimum experience as licensed plant journeyman electrician.
- Must demonstrate ability to read, write, comprehend, and use arithmetic.
- Must have a working knowledge of electrical theory and circuitry.
- Must have the ability to read/draw and comprehend electrical schematics.
- Must have a working knowledge of basic shop practices, know and understand preventive/predictive maintenance practices.
- Must maintain annual state required continuing education requirements for plant journeyman electrician license.
- Have current State of Oregon Plant Journeyman Electrical License.
- Be a multitask oriented person with the ability to run a variety of equipment including cutting torch, welders, drill presses, ironworker, thread cutting machines, pipe bending equipment, saws, cranes, forklifts and man-lifts.
- Proper use of hand and power tools.
- Working knowledge of electrical meters.
- Company training on OSHA Certified forklift and crane operations required.
- Must be well organized and have the ability to concentrate at the task at hand.
- Must be able to work under the extreme pressure of getting machinery up and running in a timely manner.
- Must be able to understand and work by established maintenance policies and procedures.
- Must have a high degree of safety awareness to work in potentially dangerous situations that utilize lockout/tag-out, confined space entry, fall protection, and respiratory protection.
- Must be well organized and have the ability to concentrate at the task at hand.
- Must be able to work under the extreme pressure of getting machinery up and running in a timely manner.
- Must be able to understand and work by established maintenance policies and procedures.
- Must have a high degree of safety awareness to work in potentially dangerous situations that utilize lockout/tag-out, confined space entry, fall protection, and respiratory protection.
