Summary:
Responsible for assuring that all activities which influence quality and service are consistently being conducted to applicable national and international standards (ASME, ASTM, MSS SP-75, ISO 9001).
Requires proficiency and understanding of the essential work instructions and operating and quality control procedures that govern:
- First article inspections at all process locations throughout production which includes: dimensional and visual inspections, detection, assessment, segregation and routing of all discrepant parts, and hardness testing. Correctly route salvageable product for repair. Assure the correct product is being used and the applicable paperwork is completed via computer and visual identification. Locate material for processing both physically and electronically. Communicate with operators on any discrepancies and relay information to department manager and QC Manager or QC Supervisor. Work independently proceeding to each first article based on the order each call was received to the pager.
- Inspect and sign-off acceptable salvaged parts from salvage department and t-forge. Route to next operation pending grind, stamp, or paint. Route back to salvage repair if not acceptable or prelim if a hold is required.
- Stock test plates into QA plate inventory using sample log.
- Cross-train in specials inspection: pulling orders, stamping, final inspections, and grinding.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Work environment:
- Exposure to heat and cold, dust, grease, loud noise levels, hot materials, sharp edges, and to the various weather elements.
- Veneer calipers, micrometers, ultrasonic thickness gauge, portable brinell hardness tester, forklift, various grinders, squares, height gauge, oxy-acetylene torches, steel rule, protractor, calibration gauge blocks, dial and digital gauges and computers.
- Smoke, oils, grease, propane, paints, etc.
Physical demands:
- Prolonged standing, bending, walking and lifting up to 75lbs withstanding high temperatures for up to 10 hours shifts.
- Working around furnaces running at 1500-2000 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Wear protective equipment including safety glasses, goggles, ear plugs, coveralls, hard hat, steel toed boots with meta-tarsal guard, face shields, and gloves.
Required education and experience:
- Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must complete QA math test with a minimum score of 80% within 90 days of hire.
- Required to successfully complete a Visual Acuity test (with or without correction).
- Demonstrate the ability to read and comprehend written procedures.
- Must possess above average reading, writing, and math skills.
- Company trained OSHA Certified forklift and crane operations.
- Attention to detail, multi-task oriented, high degree of patience, well organized, and have strong decision-making skills.
