What are the responsibilities and job description for the Marine & Terminal Operations Specialist position at ZIM?
Main Purpose of the Role:
To coordinate all functions for vessels arriving and sailing at the Ports of New York, New Jersey, Baltimore, Philadelphia and Boston. This includes coordination of pilotage, docking, boarding and husbandry services, notification of issues involving the USCG, CBP and other Government officials. Arranging labor to work the vessels with our stevedore vendors, checking compliance of Contracts with various entities, processing invoices, approve and provide rates for OOG and break-bulk cargo, preparing various reports after vessels departure.
Load list preparation for ZIM operated vessels, coordination with Panning Center, stowage planning and segregation, hazmat certification.
Timely preparation of reports for all shipping services calling the Port of New York
Recording Cost Savings on a weekly basis.
Customer & ZIM problem solving as regards Marine and Terminal Operations.
Main Tasks:
- Ensuring the efficiency of vessel calls at the ports of New York/New Jersey & Baltimore.
- Coordinate the arrival of vessels into port with various entities, including River and Docking Pilots, Line Handlers, Port Authorities, Government Agencies (USCG, CBP, Immigration, etc)
- Supplying of vessels, crew changes, cash to Master vessel repairs
- Arrange sailing of vessels, staying in contact with stevedores to assure accurate sailing time
- Preparation of ADR (vessel Arrival / Departure Reports) for all vessels in all services calling at NY/NJ & Baltimore terminals
- Preparation of Vessel Departure Report for all vessels calling at NY/NJ & Baltimore terminals
- Sending of Actual Container Repository/ACR for each vessel carrying ZIM containers
- Assisting vessels with the filing of the ENOA for the USCG and CBP
- Entering of PO's in SAP for all vessel-related expenses for all ZIM-operated vessels calling NY/NJ & Baltimore terminals
- Preparation of Port Activity Reports
- Finding new Cost Savings and creating new sources of revenue within Marine Operations.
- Providing cost and submitting for approval for all import and export OOG and Break Bulk shipments for the ports of New York/New Jersey and Baltimore.
- Make cost efficient decisions concerning the ordering of labor for vessels. Confirm that they are abided by. Audit stevedoring invoices for accuracy / errors.
- Work with major shippers of High Value Cargo to coordinate delivery of their cargo prior to or directly to the vessel or truck during cargo operations.
- Daily assessment of customer problems & immediate solutions to those problems.
- Monitor & arrange transfers to rail from each terminal and report on any dwell times in excess of standard (2 days maximum)
- Daily working with customer, claims & insurance, as regards damaged full containers.
- Coordinate all Breakbulk Operations with customer, Marine Operations, Surveyors.
- Input of Hazardous Inland Rail Billings & distribution of Hazardous Documents to IMS for all imports into NYC/BAL/ORF.
- Constant monitoring of Zim to BCL, and BCL to Zim transshipments for proper inputs to vessels.
- Monitor & manage Cold Treatment Containers.
- OOG application approvals for NYC and BAL.

Requirements:
•Academic education: High School Diploma, College Degree (Maritime College Degree preferred), Shipboard experience, Maritime operational experience
•Experience: Previous experience in Shipping Industry (a plus)
•Experience in Stevedoring (a plus)
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs
