What are the responsibilities and job description for the Purchasing Agent position at Zing Recruiting?
We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Purchasing Agent to join our team. In this role, you will manage and execute procurement activities for a local public school system, ensuring that all purchasing, contracting, and vendor relations are handled efficiently and in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Your work will support the educational mission and operational needs of the division.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the procurement process for goods, services, and construction projects, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and policies.
- Develop specifications, terms, and conditions for solicitations and evaluate procurement methods.
- Execute contracts, administer terms and conditions, and resolve vendor non-compliance or performance issues.
- Conduct supplier performance evaluations, including compliance reviews and corrective actions when necessary.
- Serve as a liaison between departments, schools, and external vendors, ensuring effective communication and support.
- Represent the division in procurement-related meetings and pre-bid conferences.
- Stay updated on procurement legislation and trends, ensuring adherence to the Virginia Public Procurement Act, federal laws, and local policies.
- Maintain accurate procurement records and prepare detailed reports for management.
- Support the implementation of electronic commerce solutions and ERP system initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Procurement, Finance, or a related field (preferred).
- At least 5 years of progressive experience in public procurement, preferably in Virginia.
- Certification (CPPB, VCO, CPPO) or the willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe.
- Strong knowledge of public-sector procurement practices, competitive bidding, and contract management.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency with procurement software, ERP systems, and e-commerce solutions.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
