We are seeking an experienced Research and Development (R&D) Manager to lead capital equipment development projects for our client, a leading medical device company. This hybrid role, based in Bloomington, IN, requires a hands-on technical leader with strong project management skills to drive innovation from early-phase assessment to commercialization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage R&D teams in the development of durable medical capital equipment
- Oversee all aspects of software, hardware, and electrical/system development, ensuring compliance with QMS and international medical device standards
- Collaborate cross-functionally with physicians, product managers, and key stakeholders to align business and user needs
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources across multiple development projects
- Identify and build relationships with strategic vendors and development partners
- Drive innovation and support the development of the company’s IP portfolio
- Mentor and develop team members while fostering a culture of collaboration and technical excellence
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field, (MS or PhD in a related field preferred)
- 7 years of experience in the development of durable medical capital equipment, including 3 years in a leadership role
- Expertise in project/program management within complex product development environments
- Strong understanding of electrical safety standards, software development (IEC 62304), risk management (ISO 14971), and regulatory requirements (21 CFR 820, ISO 13485, IEC 60601)
- Experience with IP development and working with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs)
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills
