Description
The Accounting Manager role is responsible for and oversees all accounting and finance functions for two businesses in Zingerman's Community of Businesses (ZCoB); ZingTrain, and Cornman Farms. This position is a combination of both accounting and financial planning & analysis activities, while also practicing and participating in Open Book Management. The Accounting Manager is responsible for :
- Maintaining management reporting tools, such as the DOR (Department Operating Report / Business Dashboard), revenue / cost reporting, financial statements, annual plan and forecasts
- Assists Managing Partner(s) in the administrative and financial management of the business
- Provides exceptional customer service to co-workers and customers
Salary Range : $70,000 - $80,000
Reports to : This position reports to the Finance Director of Zingerman's Community of Businesses and has a strong dotted-line relationship with the managing partners of the supported businesses.
Performance Expectations - Essential Functions :
Performs and coordinates month-end closing activities, including account reconciliations, inventory valuation where applicable and journal entries; ensures proper revenue recognitionPrepares financial statements, operational reports and analytical commentary within established timeframesMonitors cash flow and forecasts short and long-range cash requirementsProcesses vendor and customer invoicesUnderstands the operational nature of the business and can answer basic customer questionsSupports the business in product costing and inventory accuracyProvides great service to vendors and guests seeking financial informationIdentifies and implements opportunities to leverage resources and workflows across event businesses under their purviewWorks proactively to prevent problems and encourages cooperation toward achieving organizational goalsSupports staff in resolving any financial-related business issuesActive, on-site presence at businessesAttends, participates and sometimes leads weekly huddles with staffAttends biweekly huddles with Zingerman's Great Finance Group and complies with deadlines and procedures established by the groupActively supports Open-Book Management techniques and a finance culture throughout the business, collaborating with other Zingerman's businesses and Accountants to promote common practices and standards whenever possibleEstablishes and maintains good communication and positive working relationships throughout the Zingerman's Community of BusinessesGives exceptional service to all employees, customers, and vendorsOther responsibilities as assignedQuarterly, once / year, or as needed :
Quarterly and annual coordination with external accountants for tax filings and compilationAssists managing partner(s) and staff by leading the Zingerman's Annual Planning (ZAP) processCompletion of governmental reporting, including 1099s, sales tax returns, personal property tax returns, censuses where applicablePrepares pro forma statements and other financial analyses as needed, based on managing partner(s) insights on future growth expectations and major capital expenditures to add or improve revenue streamsSkills / Experience needed for this job are :
Exceptional customer service skillsBA / BS (Business or Accounting preferred) or equivalent work experience5-7 years of relevant professional experienceExperience with QuickBooks and Sage (formerly Peachtree) a plus; systems-savvy and able to make recommendations for new GL systems and / or integrations a plusProficiency in Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Microsoft Office SuiteAbility to analyze financial data & relate analysis to business operationsDemonstrated problem solving abilityExcellent verbal and written communication skillsStrong planning and organization skillsWorking knowledge of tax-related terminology and concepts; more advanced knowledge of tax rules and practices a plusEvent venue or food industry experience a plusDesired personal characteristics :
