What are the responsibilities and job description for the Astrophysics: Extragalactic Astronomy -- Active Galactic Nuclei, Clusters of Galaxies, and the Cosmic Web position at Zintellect?
About the NASA Postdoctoral Program
The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA’s missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology.
Description:
This research opportunity includes extragalactic astronomical research that focuses on observational studies of galaxy clusters and/or active galactic nuclei (AGN). Programs may use NASA observatories such as the Hubble Space Telescope (HST), Chandra, XMM, Spitzer, GALEX, NASA ground-based telescopes such as Keck or IRTF, ground-based optical/infrared observatories (KPNO, CTIO, Gemini, CFHT), or radio observatories such as the Very Large Array and ALMA. AGN programs are designed to illuminate the activation and fueling of quasars, Seyfert galaxies, and powerful radio galaxies, and the feedback upon their host galaxies and larger surroundings. Also relevant are absorption line studies of ""cosmic web"" material intervening between background quasars and UV spectrographs onboard FUSE and HST. Ongoing spectroscopic and imaging studies of galaxy clusters address the evolution of clusters and the effect of the cluster environment on the evolution of the constituent galaxies.
