About the NASA Postdoctoral Program

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA’s missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology.

Description:

Water is critical to sustaining life on Earth, and helps to link the Earth's lands, oceans, and atmosphere as an integrated physical system. Here, at the Hydrological Sciences Laboratory, we recognize the essential role of water in the Earth system, and seek a deeper insight into the science and physical principles underlying hydrology from local to global scales. We solicit post-doc candidates with scientific with technical expertise to expand and complement our existing strengths in the area of remote sensing-based hydrological research, modeling, and applications. Selected candidates will contribute to the understanding, quantification, and analysis of components of the hydrological cycle, including soil moisture, snow, ground and surface waters, precipitation, evapotranspiration, and runoff, utilizing innovative remote sensing and numerical modeling techniques. Incorporating such information into prediction systems, decision support tools, and studies of land-atmosphere interactions is likewise important. Candidates may contribute to the development and coordination of ongoing and future NASA water-related space missions, working groups, and field campaigns. Candidates should have experience in one or more of the following: hydrology, hydrologic remote sensing, hydrometeorology, hydroclimatology, environmental science, and/or Earth system modeling, machine learninng, and data assimilation, including the development of interpretation and spatial-temporal analysis techniques. Experience with NASA Earth Science satellite missions and/or a related research is desirable.
