The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is offering research opportunities for college students and postgraduates to participate in research projects and developmental activities at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) in Bethesda, Maryland.
What will I be doing and why should I apply?
Participants will have the opportunity to add their perspective and academic expertise to innovative research in projects related to the prevention and treatment of heart, lung, blood, and sleep disorders while learning from and collaborating with a highly skilled team of NIH/NHLBI staff and researchers in a unique laboratory setting. Opportunities are available for a variety of NHLBI focus areas.
What are the provisions?
- A competitive monthly stipend.
- You may be eligible to receive a health insurance allowance.
- Reimbursement of travel/training and/or a relocation allowance is determined on a case-by-case basis.
Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program and may be purchased through ORAU health insurance plan.
Appointment Length
The initial appointment is typically 40 hours per week for up to one year. Appointments may be renewed annually up to four additional years upon recommendation of NIH/NHLBI, contingent on the availability of funds. Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidates.
Nature of the Appointment
The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOE, NIH, NHLBI or any other office or agency. Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.
