About the NASA Postdoctoral Program

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA’s missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology.

Description:

The Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), managed by the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), invites applications for a postdoctoral research position at JPL to focus on studies of neutron stars, pulsars, and fast radio bursts. JPL research scientists are engaged in a broad set of science programs related to pulsar astronomy, including searching for pulsars in the Galactic Center region of the Milky Way galaxy, precision multi-frequency timing of pulsars, using pulsars for testing fundamental physics, and multi-wavelength observations of fast radio bursts (FRBs) and magnetars. Work is being conducted on a number of telescopes across several wavelengths, including ground-based instruments such as the Deep Space Network (DSN), and the Green Bank Telescope, as well as space-based instruments such as the Neutron Star Interior Composition Explorer ( NICER) mission, and the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope (Fermi).

The successful candidate will be expected to develop and carry out an innovative research program in one or more of these areas.  Of particular interest are science investigations that are focused on development of innovative techniques to search for pulsars in compact binary orbits, subsequent precision timing of such objects, and/or investigations that make use of the DSN observations that are complementary to NASA missions, such as NICER, FERMI, and LISA missions.
