Job Title: Assistant Director of Engineering and Water Quality
Location: Zion Canyon Hot Springs
Salary: $65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
Position Overview:
The Assistant Director of Engineering and Water Quality will assist in the daily management of Zion Canyon Hot Spring’s resort's engineering and water quality operations, ensuring that all building systems, including pools, pipelines, mechanical rooms, pumphouse, electrical, and HVAC systems, are functioning efficiently. This individual will provide support to the Director of Engineering and Water Quality, managing maintenance and pool technicians, and helping to oversee the daily operations of the department. The Assistant Director will also be involved in ensuring safety protocols, preventative maintenance programs, and assisting with capital improvement projects.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Communication:
- Assist in leading and supervising engineering and water quality teams, providing guidance on daily tasks and ensuring completion of assigned duties.
- Uphold company policies and promote a culture of accountability within the department.
- Assist in interviewing, hiring, training, and scheduling departmental staff.
- Collaborate with the Director to ensure employee training, certification, and safety standards are maintained.
- Assist in managing department payroll, attendance, and record-keeping of critical maintenance records.
- Help in the development and implementation of departmental processes, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure proper documentation of training activities and ongoing staff development.
Operations and Maintenance:
- Assist in managing daily operations, including overseeing the completion of inspections, preventative maintenance, and maintenance tasks for the Zion Canyon Hot Springs buildings and resort systems.
- Support the implementation and use of maintenance management software, including work orders and tracking of maintenance activities.
- Ensure that all systems, including pools, HVAC, and mechanical rooms, operate according to specifications, ensuring guest safety and comfort.
- Oversee the work of maintenance teams to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
- Participate in the planning and execution of capital improvement projects, working with subcontractors and overseeing project tasks.
Financial and Budgetary Support:
- Assist the Director in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis for the engineering and water quality department.
- Review and approve invoices, making sure they are processed promptly and accurately.
- Help the Director identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend purchases that align with department goals.
- Assist the Director in managing third-party service agreements to ensure cost-effective and quality services as needed.
Safety and Compliance:
- Help maintain compliance with all relevant regulatory agencies, including EPA, OSHA, UBS/IBC, County Health Department, and the State of Utah.
- Ensure safety protocols are in place for staff and contractors, minimizing the risk of accidents or injuries.
- Support maintaining all necessary permits, licenses, and inspections for resort systems.
Qualifications:
- Strong experience in building systems maintenance and operations, with a preferred focus on water quality.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
- Experience in managing maintenance teams, ideally with a focus on water quality and engineering systems.
- Certified Pool & Spa (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO)certification preferred but not required.
- 3 years of experience in facility maintenance or engineering, including plumbing, HVAC, or electrical systems.
- 1-2 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and generate procedural documents.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and best practices.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and remain calm under pressure.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be available for full-time work, including overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to respond to emergency situations and assist as needed.
- Ability to lift 15 pounds, bend, stretch, and stand or sit for extended periods.
- Ability to climb stairs and walk frequently across the resort property.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to travel for training or development as needed.
Compensation and Benefits:
- $65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year.
