Job Summary: Oversee the building and grounds to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
Hours: Up to 30 hours per week, occasional evenings and weekends.

Lead Custodian Responsibilities: Ensure a clean, safe, properly maintained, and welcoming environment at Zion Lutheran Church, and supervise evening custodians.
Lead Custodian Essential Duties:
- Maintain church facilities by overseeing cleaning duties, maintenance, and event set-up.
- Open and close of building according to office hours and event schedules. Coordinate with part-time custodians or volunteers for opening and closing the building as needed.
- Monitor, order, and stock custodial cleaning supplies from outside vendors.
- Oversee snow removal and lawn care.
- Make Zion related pickups and deliveries of materials as needed using personal vehicle.
- Interact with church staff, members, and visitors in a respectful, welcoming, and positive manner.
- Other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
- Lead Custodian Requirements:
- Motivated and able to work both independently and with others to provide thorough, efficient custodial and maintenance services to the church.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing as well as command basic computer skills.
- Must possess the skills to delegate duties and the ability to train, schedule, and supervise custodial staff and volunteers.
- Must have general knowledge of building maintenance, general carpentry, plumbing, heating/cooling, electrical and general custodial skills, and experience a plus.
- Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time. Ability to bend, stoop, twist, turn, kneel, squat, climb a ladder and lift up to 55 lbs. frequently. Gripping, grasping, repetitive wrist motions, reaching above shoulder height frequently, reaching at shoulder height frequently and below shoulder height frequently.
- Must have a valid driver’s license. Must have the ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.
- Must be available to work occasional evenings and some weekends with the flexibility to adjust schedule based on building activities.
Lead Custodian Preferred Attributes:
- Comfortable interacting with adults, children, and youth in a welcoming manner to support Zion’s ministries.
- Comfortable interacting with members of the wider community.
- Patience in handling multiple requests from congregation members, visitors, and staff.
Weekly Schedule:
Monday - Thursday 9:00am-4:00pm
Fridays and Weekends as needed [occasionally]
