Our team is searching for a Commercial/Business Banking Underwriter for the Ames, Iowa office location.

Ideal candidates will have these skills and experience :
Compile data for the preparation of credit packages (or pre-screens), including spreads, cash flow, collateral value, appraisals, audits, and other relevant information.
Interpret analysis outcomes, prepare summaries and recommendations, and potentially co-present with the Relationship Manager (RM) to Credit Approvers for renewals and new loan submissions.
Evaluate, analyze, and form opinions on the approval or denial of commercial, commercial real estate (RE), and/or business banking loan applications.
Spread financial statements, identify credit strengths and weaknesses, and provide detailed, documented analysis of creditworthiness.
Ensure credit requests are processed in compliance with bank policies, banking regulations, and laws, identifying risks and mitigating factors during thorough credit analysis for approval.
Respond to inquiries from internal and external customers.
Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or a related field, with a minimum of 1 year of experience in commercial or commercial real estate credit, business banking underwriting, spread analysis, lending, or related areas. A combination of education and experience may also be considered.
Fundamental knowledge of commercial, commercial real estate, and/or business banking credit underwriting, spread analysis, lending, and related concepts, practices, and procedures.
Basic understanding of Business, Commercial & Industrial (C&I), and Commercial Real Estate (CRE) loan requirements, with the ability to identify risks and mitigating factors during thorough credit analysis for approval.
Proficiency in analyzing balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, along with a solid understanding of commercial and/or business banking lending policies, procedures, and general banking laws and regulations.
Capability to analyze and research financial statements, business plans, credit reports, debt ratios, and loan-to-value information.
Strong judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
Excellent customer relations and communication skills.
Self-motivated, dependable, and accurate in completing responsibilities, with strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Proficiency in various related software applications, including spreadsheets and word processing.
