Job Description:

The Process Engineering Manager is assigned to one of Zip-Paks (03) North American manufacturing facilities where they support the plants daily operation. This includes responsibility for analyzing, designing, and optimizing processes to improve safety, efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure quality by identifying areas for improvement, implementing changes, and using data to monitor results. Key duties include process analysis using SPC methods, troubleshooting, optimization, documentation and project management. In addition, this individual will lead a team of process engineers across the division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Quality and Safety Assurance:
    • Ensure that SKUs are manufactured in a safe manner and meet quality standards.
    • Establish robust and capable (cp, cpk) processes to ensure product quality and reliability.
    • Develop and maintain BI documentation including specifications, procedures, forms, and training material.
  • Leadership and Management:
    • Lead, mentor, develop and dotted line manage a team of Zip-Pak process engineers.
    • Establish measurable outcomes for each plant (first pass yield scrap, postproduction scrap, uptime, meantime to recovery, setup times, yield). Hold a weekly scheduled meeting to review / analyze data, ensure laser focus on the 80 issues, driving measurable results and alignment on next steps.
    • Ensure R&D projects are managed in alignment with the EIC. This includes the local PE having the line(s) prepared for all trials, collecting data, analyzing data, completing project documentation in a timely manner, being the SME for all technical aspects of trials and reporting out in a documented, professional manner.
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation and data analytics within the team.
  • Process Improvement and Optimization:
    • Develop, maintain, improve, and optimize robust, repeatable, and cost-effective manufacturing processes.
    • Implement and manage process improvement projects using the ITW Toolbox and RCPA.
    • Analyze data using SPC methods to identify trends and develop actionable steps for process optimization.
    • Identifies areas for improvement in existing processes, designs new processes, and implements changes to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve quality.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Collaborate professionally with cross-functional teams, including R&D, quality assurance, maintenance, and supply chain.
    • Effectively communicate technical information and project updates to stakeholders.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Possess a strong functional understanding of each plant’s manufacturing processes and technologies. In the event of backfilling a process engineering role, be capable of onboarding the new team member in collaboration with the local plant.
    • Apply statistical and engineering methods to optimize organizational effectiveness.
    • Troubleshoot engineering design or functional issues and brainstorm solutions using ITW methodologies.
  • Project Management:
    • Manage and oversee process improvement projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
    • Develop and manage project plans, timelines, and budgets.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Drive the definition, execution, support, and implementation of continuous improvement activities.
    • Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the organization.
  • Documentation and Training:
    • Working with the local process engineers to ensure that processes are well-documented and team members are adequately trained in new procedures and equipment.
    • Establish standard practices across all facilities.
    • Ensure all process engineers are functional in using Solid Works and 3D printing.
    • Working with IT and other resources in developing SharePoint “central” sites for reporting KPI’s including scrap %, yield, uptime etc.
Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or similar technical field
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in industrial manufacturing, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Able to support in-line measurement systems, robotics, packaging, automation and PLC programming
  • Hands-on, solution oriented (data driven, analytical, process driven) problem solver
  • Must be an efficient multitasker capable of sound decision making in various situations
  • Must have strong analytical skills and demonstrate solid skills in communication, interpersonal relations
  • Proficient in the use of Design software; Project Management software; read and manipulate 3D CAD drawings and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must be willing to be a change management leader
  • Experience in plastic extrusion is preferred
  • Training in experimental design techniques and exposure to packaging industry preferred
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 35% to Ottawa, IL and Atlanta, GA facilities

Compensation Information

The salary range for this position is $100,000.00 to $120,000.00 annually. This position is also eligible for an annual bonus of up to 10% of total compensation. The pay rate for a successful candidate will depend on the geographic location, this salary range is for a successful candidate in the Chicagoland area. The specific hiring rate within the posted range will depend on the candidate's qualifications and prior experience.
