We're looking for a Mechanical Engineer I/II for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) who will assist in the design, development, and implementation of mechanical systems for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This entry-level to early-career role focuses on supporting the engineering team with mechanical component design, testing, and documentation. Engineers in this role will gain hands-on experience in UAV development and play a key role in advancing UAS technologies across various sectors, including defense and commercial aviation.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Design and Development: Assist in the design of mechanical components for UAVs, including airframes, control surfaces, and propulsion systems, under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Prototyping and Testing: Participate in the assembly and testing of UAV prototypes to evaluate mechanical performance and reliability.
  • Basic Structural Analysis: Perform preliminary stress and fatigue calculations to support the structural integrity of mechanical systems.
  • Thermal Analysis: Assist in the evaluation of thermal systems and heat dissipation strategies for UAVs.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical and software engineers, to integrate mechanical components into UAV systems.
  • Material Research: Support the selection of appropriate materials for UAV components, focusing on lightweight and cost-effective solutions.
  • Documentation: Prepare engineering drawings, test plans, and technical reports to document designs and testing outcomes.
  • Regulatory Awareness: Learn and apply basic UAS regulations and industry standards in all mechanical designs.


Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 0-3 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with internships or academic projects related to UAVs or aerospace preferred.


Skills:

  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  • Basic knowledge of structural mechanics, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping and testing mechanical systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
