Position Title : Seasonal Summer Camp Supervisor

FLSA Status : Hourly, Non-Exempt
Purpose :
The Zoo Camp Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of Zoo Camp, ensuring the safety, well-being, and development of all campers. This role involves leading and supporting camp staff, maintaining a positive and inclusive camp environment, and ensuring that all camp activities run smoothly. The Zoo Camp Supervisor will work closely with Education Department leadership, specifically the Camp and Community Programs Manager, to create an engaging, fun, and educational experience for campers.
This is a seasonal 40-hour per week position. Successful candidates must be able to work Monday-Friday, 8 : 00-4 : 30 from May 12-August 15, 2025.
Essential Job Functions :
- Supervise camp staff and provide leadership, support and guidance to Zoo Camp counselors, ensuring they fulfill their roles and responsibilities effectively.
- Ensure camper safety by being knowledgeable on all camp policies and procedures and enforce camp rules to maintain a safe environment.
- Coordinate and supervise various camp activities and programs to ensure they are engaging, well-organized, and safe for all participants.
- Work directly with camp groups, in a leadership or supporting role, to help maintain adult to child ratios and / or handling Education Ambassador Animals, when needed.
- Address camper behavioral issues in a constructive and fair manner, fostering an inclusive, respectful camp culture that ensures camper, staff, and animal safety.
- Participate in the training and development of zoo camp staff, ensuring they are equipped to carry out their duties and understand camp policies and procedures.
- Ensure that camp classrooms and supplies are well-maintained, safe, and ready for use during all activities.
- Work with camp leadership to maintain open and positive communication with parents and guardians regarding camper experience, behavior, and any concerns that arise during the camp session.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive zoo camp environment where all campers and staff feel valued, respected, and encouraged to grow and thrive.
- Serve as a role model for campers and staff, motivating, inspiring, and creating a positive atmosphere within our Zoo Camp community.
- Work effectively as part of the education team with staff, volunteers, and interns in all departments.
- Model thoughtful, ethical, empathetic leadership in all internal and public collaborators.
- Contribute professionally to a collaborative, innovative, and energetic work environment.
