- May serve as Project Engineer on complex, single-discipline projects.
- May serve as Lead Engineer on projects within discipline and direct designers / technicians assigned to those projects.
- Assists with assessing requirements of a project, it’s tasks and assisting with determination of scope, schedule, budget and staffing.
- Assist with development of proposals and project documentation.
- Directs others in performing field measurements.
- Incorporates design concepts into design development and works with project team to produce construction documents.
- Produces sketches and system schematics for complicated design and layout tasks.
- Coordinates clearances and tasks with other design professionals.
- Documents existing conditions and performs some troubleshooting.
- Prepares opinion of probable costs for specific discipline and reviews contractor cost estimates and for documenting bills of material. May teach others.
- Documents project scope.
- Familiar with other engineering disciplines and performs inter-discipline reviews.
- Promotes use of and participates in the development of company design and production standards.
- Checks / reviews designs, drawings and documents created by self and others to assure accuracy and compliance with company design and production standards.
- Performs and / or directs construction support / management on routine and simple projects.
- Selects and implements designs, techniques, layouts and plans.
- Reviews and analyzes designs to determine layout requirements.
- Checks designs and drawings prepared by others.
- Calculates design data.
- Prepares technical portion of specifications / materials lists, etc.
- Assists in preparing cost estimates and reports.
- May work with code officials and other design professionals when an interpretation or exception to the codes is required.
- Uses computer programs and spreadsheets for design analysis and presentations.
- Assists in the education and development of design staff and acts as a resource for design questions.
- Keeps current on “state of the art” in their design discipline through review of periodicals and continuing education.
- Maintains neat and organized work area which allows efficient access to project information required by other team members.
- Assists with whatever duties are required to deliver a quality project on schedule and within budget.
