Asphalt Paver

Job Summary

Performs all tasks relating to asphalt paving and operates equipment used for applying concrete, asphalt, or other materials to roadbeds, parking lots, or airport runways and for tamping gravel, dirt, or other materials. 

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist construction/paving crew with various duties such as; shoveling and raking, running wheelbarrow, safely backing/dumping trucks into the paver.
• Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and materials with a shovel.
• Follow the direction of Superintendent as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or jobsite.
• Fill tanks, hoppers, or machines with paving materials.
• Control paving machines to push dump trucks and to maintain a constant flow of asphalt or other material into hoppers or screeds.
• Observe distribution of paving material to adjust machine settings or material flow and indicate low spots for workers to add material.
• Coordinate truck dumping.
• May be called upon to run small power tools such as a jackhammer.
• Digs, spreads, and levels construction materials.
• Lifts, carries and holds material, tools and supplies.
• Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
• Properly follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment. Report any problems to the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 1 yrs. of previous experience in the construction industry.
• Must be able to follow instructions and comply with our Safety rules and Procedures.
• Must have working knowledge of all tools, materials and machinery needed to perform the job.
• Ability to understand, follow and transmit written or oral instructions.
• Basic understanding of construction principles and procedures.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

• Must be work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements, heat/cold temperatures, wind, rain, blowing dust.
• Able to work around moving equipment and tolerate loud noise levels.
• Bend and stoop repeatedly throughout the day.
• Able to push, pull and lift 50 lbs.
• Able to walk and stand for long periods of time.
• Able to walk on rough, rocky and uneven surfaces at construction sites.

*This is an evergreen positing which means it will stay open continuously and will not close.  However, if at the time of application we do not have any open positions, we will keep your application active for 4 months from the time of application. 

Additional Qualifying Factors

As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical screening. If applicable to the contract, you may also be required to submit through a background check. Must have reliable transportation to/from work and must have a valid driver's license at time of application.
