ZJA is seeking a dynamic individual to serve as the Mechaneches at our Girls’ High School. The Mechaneches is a crucial part of our growing team and the ideal candidate will be passionate about the growth of our students and the culture of our school.
Responsibilities
Teaching
Teach high school-level Judaic studies, including Tanach, Halacha, and Jewish history (specific subjects based on expertise and school needs). Design engaging, differentiated, and interactive lessons that cater to diverse student learning styles.
Teaching Load : In the teacher’s first year, teach for approximately half a day. Teaching responsibilities may decrease as the school grows and the Mechaneches role expands.
Leadership
Relationships : Foster and maintain positive relationships with students, serving as a welcoming and professional point of contact. Provide spiritual and emotional mentorship for female students, guiding their personal, social, and religious growth. Act as an approachable resource for students, addressing challenges they face and cultivating a positive school environment.
Role Model : Represent Zucker Jewish Academy within and outside of work as a role model, demonstrating Torah values and professionalism. Handle all sensitive matters with discretion and sensitivity.
Discipline and Culture : Collaborate with team members to establish a positive school culture. Assist teachers with discipline matters following the Zucker Positive Discipline policy in consultation with the Head of Judaics.
Programming
Events : Organize and lead Judaics programming in coordination with the Head of Judaics and office staff, including but not limited to :
Multiple Shabbatonim per year (at least one school-wide and one per grade or two school-wide).
Yemei Iyun" before High Holidays and Chanukah, and as appropriate.
5-6 Judaics trips annually (e.g Tashilch, Tu B’shvat and Lag B’Omer trips, visiting nursing homes etc.)
Coordinate a Rosh Chodesh Brunch each month in coordination with the head of Judaics.
Other Events : Participate and support in other school events when appropriate.
