Job Description
We are currently looking for a Market Facing Underwriting Manager (Level I or Level II) to support our production underwriting team.
This hybrid position will be based out of our Long Island office and is a unique leadership opportunity.
Responsibilities:
- Provide coaching and mentoring to a team of underwriters
- Manage underwriting and rate strategies to promote profitable growth
- Manage relationships with key internal stakeholders in order to identify opportunities for service improvement to ensure commercial viability and customer satisfaction.
- Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business within delegated authority levels.
- Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents and brokers) in support of business retention and new business and work with customers and distributors (agents & brokers) to determine their insurance-related needs and provide solutions.
- Support the organization's sales culture by being a trusted advisor for agents, brokers, and customers.
Requirements:
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area AND Experience with Microsoft Office
- For Level II: High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area AND 2 or more years of management experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree
- Advanced knowledge of line/s of business
- Ability to manage and build rapport with team
- Excellent organizational, written, oral communication and presentation skills
- Advanced knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory guidelines
- 6 months or more of supervisory or management experience
- Established Producer relationships
- Advanced skills in relationship building, active listening, needs analysis, and win-win negotiating
- Strong presentation skills and a solutions and service orientation
