We're currently looking for a Market Facing Underwriting Manager (Level I or Level II) to support our production underwriting team. This hybrid position will be based out of our Long Island office and is a unique leadership opportunity. In this role, you'll manage a small team of underwriters while also being an individual contributor with your own select book of business. You'll need to be visible in the marketplace to meet with our agents and brokers and spend two days per week in the office to lead team collaboration days.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide coaching and mentoring to a team of underwriters.
- Manage relationships with key internal stakeholders to identify opportunities for service improvement and ensure commercial viability and customer satisfaction.
- Underwrite and analyze new and renewal business within delegated authority levels.
- Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents and brokers) to support business retention and new business.
- Support the organization's sales culture by being a trusted advisor for agents, brokers, and customers.
This role will be filled at either Level I or II, depending on the selected applicant's experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position.
Basic Qualifications:
Level I:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area AND Experience with Microsoft Office
Level II:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area AND 2 or more years of management experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree
- Advanced knowledge of line/s of business
- Ability to manage and build rapport with team
- Excellent organizational, written, oral communication and presentation skills
- Advanced knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory guidelines
- 6 months or more of supervisory or management experience
- Established Producer relationships
- Advanced skills in relationship building, active listening, needs analysis, and win-win negotiating
- Strong presentation skills and a solutions and service orientation
