COUNTY OF ADAMS is Hiring a Library Technical Services Coordinator Near Adams, WI

The Library Technical Services Coordinator manages all processes that prepare materials for circulation and use by Library patrons; maintains the Library’s technical devices, power sources, and software; and manages Library operations in the absence of the Library Director and the Library Manager.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Collection preparation and maintenance

  1. Prepares new items for circulation in the Library collection. 

  2. Adds book jackets, labels, reinforcement tape, and other identification markings.

  3. Creates storage containers for items that need special handling.

  4. Repairs and reconditions library materials when damaged. Sends items to other locations for specific maintenance needs.

  5. Updates item status in LinkCat when materials are unavailable for use.

  6. Suggests items for replacement due to condition.

  7. Engages in training and continuing education to keep skills current on item processing techniques and materials.

  8. Participates in the development, recommendation and administration of library processing policies, procedures, and processes.

  9. Withdraws materials by properly marking them for resale or disposing of them. Recycles cases and other parts as appropriate.

  10. Trains staff members in collection maintenance and care.

General responsibilities

  1. Manages Library operations in the absence of the Library Director and the Library Manager.

  2. Responsible for work flow of Circulation Desk, including training new staff, and general supervision of Circulation Desk staff.

  3. Maintains the library’s technical devices, consulting appropriate experts as needed.

  4. Represents the Library in community or consortium committees and outreach.

  5. Staff the circulation desk and other library service points as required.

  6. Provides one-on-one help to patrons in using the library, including support for use of technical issues and devices.

  7. Perform other related functions and duties as assigned or required.

  1. High school graduation. Preferred: 4-year college degree, or certificate from a 2-year program.

  2. Four years of library or other office experience.

  3. Good knowledge of English grammar and spelling.

  4. Ability to effectively follow instructions from supervisors delivered in writing or verbally.

  5. Ability to read and understand information contained in memoranda, reports, bulletins, etc.

  6. Ability to effectively communicate ideas and information in written and oral forms.

  7. Ability to calculate basic arithmetic problems without the aid of a calculator.

  8. Ability to sort efficiently in alphabetic or numerical order, and to develop a working understanding of the Dewey Decimal system of library materials arrangement.

  9. Ability to use computer, typewriter, calculator, copy machine, fax machine, multi-line telephone, printer, microform readers, and audio-visual equipment.

  10. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Windows, and other programs used by the public on the Library’s public computers.

  11. Ability to work independently, and make supervisory decisions when necessary, including occasional weekend and evening hours.

  12. Ability to set priorities in order to meet assigned deadlines.

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

General knowledge of County and department policies and procedures to include emergency and inclement weather policies; general knowledge of the purpose of the Library and its collection; general knowledge of library programs, events, and tours; ability to prioritize and manage multiple, concurrent projects; attention to detail and ability to effectively organize time and anticipate, plan and successfully respond to changing circumstances; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; ability to operate and use standard office equipment; knowledge and ability to use standard office and position-specific software; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other departments and the general public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This work requires the ability to coordinate eyes, hands, and limbs in performing movements requiring skill and training, such as drawing, typing, and assembling. 

The ability to exert moderate physical effort in sedentary to moderate work, typically involving some combination of standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, twisting, reaching, lifting and carrying 50 pounds or less, and pushing and pulling 60-80 pounds on wheels.

Exposure to bloodborne pathogens is considered low for this position.
