Job Description

General Summary of Duties:

Make precise measurements to determine property boundaries from the local real estate market.Provide boundary surveys and ALTA surveys for Real Estate Attorneys.Work primarily on boundary calculations with data provided by field crews, as well as correcting and signing the final plat.Some crew supervision required.

Supervision Received:

Reports directly to the General Manager of PSI.

Supervision Exercised:

Ability to mentor subordinates, including researchers, drafters, and field crews.

Typical Physical Demands:

Ability to work at a desk, sitting for long periods of time. Supervision of field crews will occasionally require time in the field, often walking long distances as the job requires.

Typical Working Conditions:

While the primary focus is in boundary calculations while in the office, field work will occasionally be required.Field work involves working outdoors, standing for long periods, and often walking long distances. Traveling is occasionally a part of the job, reliabletransportation is required.Overtime and
Saturday work is occasionally necessary.

Examples of Duties:
(This list may not include all duties assigned.)

1. Complete boundary surveys in Chicago and surrounding areas, using data collected from field crews.

2. Supervise and manage field crews during the boundary survey process.

3. Establish stake sites and official land and water boundaries.

4. Research land records, survey records, and land titles.

5. Look for evidence of previous boundaries to determine where boundary lines are located.

6. Record the results of surveying and verify the accuracy of data.

7. Prepare plots, maps, and reports.

8. Present findings to clients, government agencies, and others.

9. Must approve final calculation of all boundary surveys (sign the plot).Use of E-Signature required.

10. Provide expert testimony in court regarding survey work, if needed.

11. Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Performance Requirements:

Knowledge of residential/commercial survey practices.Must be proficient in AutoCAD and/or Microstation/Geopak.Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive working relationships with co-workers, CADD Drafters, and other team members.Clean driving record required. Excellent communication skills.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree, with certification as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS).

Experience Required:

Experience in boundary survey work and boundary dispute resolutions.

ALTA survey experience required.

Experience in legal description writing.

Condominium experience a plus.

Topo experience a plus.

Certificate and /or Licenses Required:

Current Illinois surveyor license in good standing.
