MISSION STATEMENT AND OVERVIEW

Sarah’s Inn is dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals impacted by domestic violence and to ending the cycle of violence for future generations. Founded in 1980 by a group of passionate women in River Forest and Oak Park, Sarah’s Inn initially responded to the lack of support services for domestic violence victims and their families. Over the years, it has evolved into one of Chicago's largest and most comprehensive domestic violence agencies, serving 22 suburban communities in West Cook County.

With three core program areas, Sarah’s Inn offers vital support to those in need. The Intervention Program provides essential services to families dealing with domestic violence, helping them navigate crises, heal from trauma, and achieve self-sufficiency. The Together Strong Project delivers violence prevention education in schools, aiming to empower youth with essential knowledge and skills. The Training and Education Program fosters a network of knowledgeable bystanders who can intervene effectively and advocate for change in their communities. Annually, Sarah’s Inn reaches over 23,000 individuals across these vital program areas.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As we embark on our 44th year of service, Sarah’s Inn seeks an experienced professional to lead our Talent Management efforts to new heights.

The Human Resource Generalist, reporting to the Executive Director, will spearhead daily human resource operations, including recruitment, onboarding, lifecycle management, HRIS data management, and policy enforcement. This pivotal role demands active engagement with staff at all levels and across departments, serving as a vital member of the management team alongside Administrative and Program Directors. Collaborating closely with the Executive Director, Directors and Supervisors, the Human Resource Generalist will ensure the seamless execution of Sarah’s Inn policies, procedures, and employee benefits.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Human Resources Generalist’s responsibilities encompass:

HRIS Management

  • Primary administrator of HRIS, maintaining accurate and up-to-date data
  • Monitoring and updating employment changes, transfers, and moves
  • Analyzing metrics, reporting, and improving operational efficiencies in the system
  • Collaborating with external HRIS vendor for updates and troubleshooting

Benefits Administration

  • Managing benefits administration and open enrollment
  • Administering FSA and retirement plans, including filing annual 5500 returns
  • Partnering with leadership and external brokers for benefits review and enhancements

Talent Management

  • Assisting in talent acquisition and recruitment
  • Managing job postings, interviews, and candidate feedback
  • Overseeing onboarding, orientation programs, and employee relations
  • Ensuring compliance with training, performance reviews, and employment laws

DESIRED BACKGROUND AND SKILLSET

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • HR certification preferred
  • 3-5 years HR experience with benefits focus
  • Strong employee relations and leadership skills
  • Proficiency in HRIS, payroll systems, and vendor management
